One of the renowned medical universities, King George Medical University, is located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1911, the university hospital has over 250 MBBS seats, 51 BDS and has admitted over 900 students this year through the NEET UG exam to pursue their careers in the medical field. Founded by King George V, the then Prince of Wales, KGMU ranked 6th in 2019 amongst India's top 25 Medical Colleges.

KGMU has the number one clinical facility in pediatrics, obs&gynae, ophthalmology, and radiotherapy, and number one dental facility in periodontology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric and preventive dentistry. The college was handed over to Lucknow University in 1921 after being under the Government of the United Provinces for more than ten versatile years. In 2020, KGMU was ranked 10th amongst the medical colleges in India, 32 amongst the universities, and 50 overall by the NIRF. It was also ranked 7th by the Week and 6th by Outlook India amongst the top medical colleges in India. 

The college offers an MBBS course in UG with a duration of four and a half years. All these seats are filled with an all-India combined medical entrance, known as NEET, whose results may come in the 3rd week of Oct. The medical university also offers courses for PG students. More than 13 Doctoral courses and 28 PG courses admit students based on NEET PGresults. The NEET PG 2021 results were out on Sept 29. The college has declared the results of the Ph.D. course entrance examinations for the year 2021.

Important Announcements 

KGMU has not yet announced any dates for the MBBS/BDS admissions. We know that the dates may be notified as soon as the NEET results are declared this month. We can expect counseling for these courses at the end of this month or the first week of Nov. Some important announcements and dates that must not be missed are as follows-

  • The second counseling of the SR candidates scheduled to start from Oct 7, 2021, has been postponed. Earlier, the university has issued a notice for the second counseling of SR (senior resident), starting from Oct 7, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. The venue was Kalam Center, KGMU, Lucknow.
  • KGMU has issued some guidelines for the candidates of the PDCC Fellowship Program.
  • The entrance exam of MSc Nursing has been postponed to Oct 10, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The exam was earlier scheduled for Oct 3, 2021.
  • KGMU has declared the list of candidates for SR (un-registered) 2021-22 counseling.

  • Candidate must have qualified 10+2 from a recognized university or board with a minimum of 50% marks for General Category, 40% for SC/ST/OBC/Reserved-PH, and 45% for Unreserved-PH.
  • Candidate must have passed the above qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English.
  • Applicant must be 17 years of age, not more than 25 years, at the time of admission.
  • Must have a qualified NEET UG Score.

  • The candidate must have completed their high school from a recognized university/board.
  • The lower age limit of the applicant must not be more than 17 years at the time of admission.
  • General category applicants must score a minimum of 45% marks in the qualifying exam.
  • Reserved category applicants must score a minimum of 40% marks in the qualifying exam.
