B.A. Music – Indian Music (Vocal/Sitar) and B.A. Music – Western Contemporary (Vocals /Piano/Guitar/Drums) programs are now open for admission at the NMIMS School of Performing Arts (SoPA) for this academic year. SoPA which started with 13 students in 2018 now has more than students studying on its campus. The school is to be credited for the introduction of a unique musical performance called ‘Naad Expression’ where the students can come to perform before the faculty and receive feedback from them. It is a monthly event and an experiential learning tool full of opportunities for students of both Indian and Western Contemporary music.
The focus of the three-year B.A. in Indian Music (Vocal Music) offered here is on teaching both practical and theoretical knowledge in its students. This course prepares its students for a thriving career in music by organising regular Riyaz sessions to augment the learning experience.
On the other hand, the study program of B.A. in Music - Western Contemporary Music (Vocals | Piano | Guitar | Drums) is focused on equipping its students with comprehensive knowledge of music through practice, theory, and technology. This program comes with a 40-hour internship opportunity in the third year which provides an opportunity to learn from famous composers, musicians, and production houses; the program itself is taught by industry leaders.
SoPA alumni have found success as they perform at major venues, collaborate with eminent musicians and are employed in institutions of great repute that include names like Artium Academy, the Crossroads School of Music, Swirl Music, and Spark Studio. Some of the former SoPA students have gone on to form bands, release singles, and produce music.
While talking about SoPA and the programs offered therein, Dr Vikas Bharadwaj, Dean - School of Performing Arts, said, “Several students these days are open to pursuing education which is offbeat and are willing to follow their passion for performing arts, especially music. The NMIMS School of Performing Arts provides a great opportunity to learn music from the best in the field which opens up flourishing career avenues for aspiring musicians, be it vocals or instruments. The cutting-edge music infrastructure at our institute and our special curriculum ensure that our students get a sound foundation in both Indian and Western music.”
