For the upcoming school year, the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) School of Performing Arts will be accepting students for the Bachelor of Arts in Music (Indian Music) (Vocal/Sitar) and Bachelor of Arts in Music (Western Contemporary Music) (Vocals | Piano | Guitar | Drums) programmes on December 1, 2022. The School of Performing Arts has an innovative concert series called "Naad Expression," which features performances from both Indian and Western Contemporary music students every month.
The three-year Bachelor of Arts in Music programme (Indian Music) (Vocal/Sitar) is designed to give students a solid foundation in both the theory and practise of music, preparing them for successful careers in the field.
In contrast, students in the Bachelor of Arts in Music (Western Contemporary Music) (Vocals, Piano, Guitar, Drums) programme receive instruction from professionals who take a holistic view of their students' theoretical, practical, and technological demands. Further, third-year students can participate in a 40-hour internship programme that provides them with opportunities to work with well-known artists, songwriters, and production companies.
Their former students are now working at illustrious music businesses including Artium Academy, the Crossroads School of Music, Swirl Music, and Spark Studio, and performing at big venues. Some students have even gone so far as to start their own bands, complete with recording, songwriting, and even single releases.
Dr. Vikas Bharadwaj, Associate Dean of the School of Performing Arts, has this to say about the programmes and SoPA in general: "The school is unique, providing a great opportunity to those who are passionate about music and gives them an avenue of their choice rather than having to opt for tried and tested courses." Students at SoPA can expect a firm grounding in the musical genre of their choosing (whether that's Indian or Western) thanks to the school's cutting-edge music infrastructure and the meticulous planning that went into the curriculum. Students can look forward to a successful professional future thanks to our faculty's extensive experience and extensive network within the relevant industries.
Eligibility criteria:
All applicants must have a minimum of a 50% aggregate from their 10+2 or equivalent exams, regardless of major. Students who show exceptional talent and interest in music are given priority.
Both programmes use students' unlisted, unedited, 2- to 5-minute YouTube films as part of the application process. Shortlisted students are called for an online audition at a date set by the school.
The School of Performing Arts (SoPA) at SVKM's NMIMS, which is considered a university, has cutting-edge facilities such as cutting-edge music labs and supports technology-assisted instruction. The small class sizes allow the teachers to get to know each student and guide them to their full potential.
