Bengaluru, 24th July, 2023: in collaboration with the prestigious Boston University School of Law, the NMIMS Bengaluru School of Law has successfully organized an international conference on the theme "In the contemporary era, human rights are taking on new global dimensions." The conference was held at the NMIMS Bengaluru campus and attracted a diverse range of participants from the field of law. The event was graced with the esteemed presence of the Chief Guest, Hon. SP Singh Baghel, Member of Parliament and Minister of State for the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Additionally, the keynote speaker at the conference was Justice Sant Prakash, Chairman of Punjab Human Rights Commission.

The primary focus of the conference was to bring attention to critical human rights issues in today's world and create a platform for meaningful discussions and the sharing of knowledge. Renowned speakers from diverse fields offered their expertise, thereby enriching the exploration of the subject matter.

Among the topics covered at the conference were the changing contours of gender justice, corporate liability under international human rights law, climate change and environmental justice, sustainable development and human rights, equality, nondiscrimination and human rights, and health as a human right. As a result of these discussions, critical thinking was stimulated and innovative approaches to addressing human rights issues were inspired.

Addressing the conference, Shri. S.P Singh Baghel, Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and Member of Lok Sabha, emphasized the significance of collective efforts by governments, institutions, and individuals in safeguarding and protecting human rights. Ms. Rebecca Pendleton, Faculty Director at Boston University School of Law, addressed the conference virtually with great enthusiasm. On behalf of her institution, she expressed her delight in participating in the event, emphasizing the values of unity, collaboration, and shared commitment to the advancement and safeguarding of human rights. She highlighted the significance of the conference as a unique platform where legal scholars, practitioners, and students from various corners of the world could unite. Dr. Narayani Ramachandran, Deputy Director of NMIMS Bengaluru, shared her thoughts on the conference, underlining its objective of nurturing a public discourse on human rights. Recently, the School of Economics at NMIMS Bengaluru organized a one-of-a-kind inauguration program for the incoming batch of B.Sc Economics students, marking the commencement of their academic journey for the 2023-2026 session. Notably, there has been a significant rise in the number of students enrolling in the B.Sc Economics program compared to the previous academic year of 2022-2023. The event was graced by Mr. Vivek V Nayak, a highly accomplished senior professional in supply chain management, boasting an impressive sixteen years of experience across all facets of the supply chain. Mr. Nayak served as the Chief Guest for the occasion, inspiring and motivating the students with his insights and expertise. After the inauguration ceremony, the students actively participated in an engaging orientation program designed to acquaint them with the university, its available resources, and the specifics of the B.Sc Economics program.

Following the successful orientation program at the School of Economics, NMIMS Bengaluru, the School of Law conducted its own orientation program for the new batch of students joining the BA LLB and BBA LLB programs. The objective was to introduce the students to the institution's ethos, values, and the academic curriculum, paving the way for their prosperous journey ahead. Impressively, in the present academic year, both the BBA LLB and BA LLB programs have experienced a notable increase in the enrollment of female students, surpassing the number of male students. This encouraging trend highlights a positive stride towards achieving gender diversity in the legal domain.
