UP Board Class 10 question papers for 2024 are available below for Mathematics, Science, English, Hindi, Sanskrit and Social Science. Each paper is listed with its booklet code, such as 822 (HV) for Mathematics and 824 (IJ) for Science.
The inspected papers had 20 one-mark MCQs and 50 marks of written questions. The written part included calculations, diagrams, reading passages, translation, composition and map work, depending on the subject.
The 2024 covers allowed three hours and 15 minutes, with the first 15 minutes kept for reading. The 20 MCQ answers went on an OMR sheet, while the 50-mark written part used subject-specific questions and internal choices.
The paper code identifies the subject and booklet. Science 824 (IJ) continues its written part from question 21, while Science 824 (IM) restarts it at question 1. Hindi 801 (HA) and 801 (HD) use the same two numbering styles. A question number should therefore be read with the booklet code.
The Mathematics HV question paper began with polynomials, prime factorisation and the division algorithm. Its MCQs also included coordinate geometry, trigonometry, statistics and probability. Several required a calculation: question 10 gave a grouped frequency table, while question 18 asked for the modal class of another distribution.
The written section had five main questions, numbered 21 to 25. Their subparts and choices are important when counting marks. Question 21 required all six parts. Question 22 offered six parts but required only five; attempting all six was not needed to reach the section total.
| HV written question | Parts to answer | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| 21 | All six parts, two marks each | 12 |
| 22 | Any five of six parts, four marks each | 20 |
| 23, 24 and 25 | One alternative in each question, six marks each | 18 |
| Part B total | Required answers only | 50 |
Statistics appeared in both parts. The shorter written tasks included finding the mode from a grouped table. Question 22 included a median calculation, alongside algebra, a geometry proof and probability. Its probability problem involved drawing red and blue balls from a bag.
The six-mark questions combined calculation with a written setup. One offered two squares with a total area of 157 square metres and a combined perimeter of 68 metres. Another choice involved a boat travelling downstream and upstream. The final questions included heights and distances, a glass with a raised hemispherical base, and a spinning top made from a cone and a hemisphere.
The Mathematics 822 (HV) solutions are also available.
The Science 824 (IJ) paper grouped Physics, Chemistry and Biology in both parts. The first seven MCQs were from Physics, the next six from Chemistry and the final seven from Biology.
Optics questions moved from identifying a convex-mirror image to finding image distance and focal length. The written section also asked how resistors of 2, 3 and 6 ohms could be connected to produce two different total resistances. A six-mark choice covered domestic electrical wiring or the magnetic field around a current-carrying conductor.
Chemistry included drawing the structures of ethanoic acid, methanal, 1-chloropropane and nitromethane. Other questions covered the electrochemical series and copper alloys. These needed named compounds, structures and uses, rather than a list of chapter definitions.
Biology required a labelled neuron diagram and its functions, an explanation of sex determination in humans, and differences between producers and consumers. The final choice asked for the human heart with a labelled diagram or the female reproductive system with a diagram. The marks were divided between parts of these answers, so the diagram and explanation both formed part of the question.
The Science 824 (IJ) questions and solutions are also available.
The English HH paper used different passages for its objective and written sections. Part A opened with a passage about the Statue of Liberty. Part B used Robin Hood for short reading answers, including a vocabulary question. Literature-based MCQs included a short extract from Fog.
Question 22 offered a four-mark application to a health officer about cleaning the locality and spraying insecticide to kill mosquitoes, or a letter asking a father for money and permission for a college tour. Question 23 carried six marks and offered an 80–100-word article on a vacation or a paragraph on good manners. Both choices supplied points to develop.
Grammar carried 10 marks: indirect speech, passive voice and punctuation had two marks each, while Hindi-to-English translation carried four. Literature asked about characters and ideas from the prescribed texts. The longer answers included Lencho or Rajvir, while the poetry choices included Dust of Snow, The Trees and The Tale of Custard the Dragon.
Reading: 7 marks
Writing: 10 marks
Grammar: 10 marks
Literature: 23 marks
The required length changed with the task. Some literature answers were about 30–40 words; others were about 60 words. The central-idea question asked for about 40–50 words.
The Hindi 801 (HA) paper combined passage explanation with grammar and composition. Question 21 offered prose on bad company or envy and asked for context, explanation and related answers. Poetry included an alternative from Pushp Ki Abhilasha. Sanskrit prose and verse were followed by translation into Hindi.
The writing choices were specific. Question 28 offered a request for Hindi books and magazines for a school library, or a letter congratulating a debate winner. The essay choices included water, a dream India, road safety, communalism and computers. These tasks sat alongside questions on prescribed literary works; Hindi was not limited to recalling textbook lines.
The Sanskrit 818 (HQ) paper required writing in Sanskrit as well as translation into Hindi. Its objective section included passages, pronunciation, sandhi, word forms and compounds. Question 25 asked for a verse’s meaning in Sanskrit. Question 29 required any three Hindi sentences to be translated into Sanskrit for six marks, and question 30 asked for an eight-sentence Sanskrit essay.
The Social Science JC paper had 20 one-mark MCQs, followed by written answers and map work. In Part B, questions 1–4 carried four marks each and asked for answers of about 80 words. Questions 5–8 carried six marks each, with answers of about 150 words.
The choices covered more than recall of events. Question 3 offered soil-erosion control in hilly areas or water scarcity and rainwater harvesting. Question 6 offered decentralisation or the features of an accountable, responsive and legitimate government. Question 8 asked about classification of economic activities or the functions of the World Trade Organization.
Map work carried 10 marks. Question 9(A) asked for five historical locations and question 9(B) for five geographical or economic locations. Each location had half a mark for its name and half for its position. Together, the paper’s marks were 20 for MCQs, 16 for the shorter written answers, 24 for the longer answers and 10 for maps.
No. The covers include the first 15 minutes of reading within the stated three hours and 15 minutes.
The Mathematics HV, Science IJ and English HH instructions prohibit erasing or using whitener after an OMR answer has been marked. Science IJ also specifies a blue or black ballpoint pen.
No. Question 28 asked for the central idea of any one of Dust of Snow, The Trees or The Tale of Custard the Dragon, in about 40–50 words. The three titles were alternatives within one three-mark question.
