The field of economics keeps evolving and keeping abreast with these changes the NMIMS Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics (SAMSOE) and Virginia Tech University (VT), USA, have collaborated to offer a unique 2-year Dual Degree Programme in Economics.

Master of Science (Economics) dual degree program has a duration of two years and admissions are open for the same. The last date to apply for the program is 12th May 2024.

One year of this program will be spent at NMIMS and other year will be taught at Virginia Tech in USA. Once this dual degree program is finished, the student will receive a degree in M.Sc. in Economics from SAMSOE and M.A. in Economics from Virginia Tech.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Candidate must be a graduate with a minimum of 50% marks from any stream from a recognised University
  2. Candidate must have opted for and passed either Mathematics or Statistics (as a subject) in their 12th Class or any equivalent examination AND at their graduation level.

Selection Process

  • The Selection of students is based on an Admission Test and Personal Interview which is jointly conducted by NMIMS and Virginia Tech.
  • The students at NMIMS are supposed to complete their first year i.e., both semesters with a minimum CGPA of 3 on a scale of 4.
  • The students not securing the minimum CGPA as required won’t be considered qualified for the dual degree program. So, they won’t go to Virginia Tech, but they can continue with their second year at NMIMS and getting a degree of M. Sc. in Economics.
  • The students qualifying to go to Virginia Tech will be personally responsible for managing all the paperwork and securing a valid student visa.

This unique program is a distinctive blend of economics and analytical disciplines as both of these courses help in building a strong foundation for a Ph. D. in Economics and the students of this course will have unrestricted and complete access to the Ph. D. courses in Economics that are offered at Virginia Tech. M. Sc. in Economics offered by SAMSOE grants foundational education of economics through subjects like Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Econometrics and International Economics which account for a strong baseline in Economics. At Virginia Tech, the students will be able to explore advanced courses like Big Data Economics, Computational Finance, Behavioural Economics, and Managerial Economics.

The MA Economics degree offered by Virginia Tech is a programme certified by STEM, this allows the international students to receive Optional Practical Training for a duration of three years post completion of degree.
