I chose this college firstly because Goa itself is a hub of hospitality and service and the college has the same vibe as any hotel management institute should have. Talking about admissions, it happens the same way as you have to appear for the NCHMCT JEE entrance exam which is conducted all over India. (Please check the NCHMCT site for more info as of now the affiliation of the course is about to change from IGNOU to a new University affiliation). No interviews and no GDs are conducted to do admissions in IHM Goa. Seniors are generally assisted in first-year admission for parents and students. Overall admission process is good and has little to no hassle.
The reason behind choosing this course was to get me a degree from a renowned institute and from a place where I can grow as person. No doubt despite all the struggles and difficulties the hotel industry shows indeed hotel management can change you as a person. Teaching in IHM goa is above average and faculty do give attention to the students(If same is given by students to teachers). To be very honest the curriculum of the hotel management course is way easier to attend than any other degree course out there, still, there are subjects where I also got fumbled at first. (Accounts & strategic management), although as I mentioned earlier the affiliation of the institute is about to change from this or next year the syllabus is also expected to change to a more practical and managerial level for students to get extra exposure to the course. Annual fees for the course is around approx.110000/-excluding the hostel fees. So it came out around 350000/- of total fees.
I have done my internship at JW Marriott Pune and generally, students are required to do the internship in the second year to get exposure and experience in the industry. It's up to you where you want to do the internship plus college also suggests some well reputed brands in the same to help you choose a better place for an internship. You have to maintain or complete one logbook and presentation after completion of the internship.
Placements are conducted in the 5th semester of the course I.e in the last year.No eligibility criteria as such for placements as a student is eligible to seat for the campus in 5th sem. Companies/brands like Oberoi, TAJ, Hilton, Hyatt, and Starbucks visit the institute every year for placements. Around 60% of students get placed Every year, the highest package offered is 6LPA.
Campus Life is vibrant and good. Events are conducted by the college but they demand student participation. Various clubs are also there which conduct various activities and programs. The food provided by the college is decent and wholesome.
I choosed this course because the course covers all the aspect of commerce field . The teaching method and quality is also very good . We have smartboard in every classroom . All the professors use smartboard to teach . We have 3 isa in which 1st one is compulsorly and in 2nd and 3rd isa we get improvement chance which helps us to score better in term exam as the marks of isa are added in term exam .
No placement is done here . Placement is done only in MBA programs. .
At the end of the 3rd year Campus placement starts and I would like to tell that many 4-5 star hotel come to campus for placements Like TAJ , Hyatt , many airports companies Lowest package was around 2.5L annually and highest was around 6-7L per annum
Placements and internships are good there are two internship seasons named as PS1 and PS2 which is based on our curriculum. During the past 2 years the placements have not been that great because of the ongoing recession. But still companies are coming with less packages and students are getting placed but frequency is less. My plan after the degree is to get some job experience and then I will try to go pursue MBA.
Great ! You can get it easily in your preferred city/country. There are many hotels which are linked to iihm so interships and placements are easily available in your preference. Good fot that reason.
Faculty are very experienced and distinguished personalities they are very knowledgeable in their fields. The course here is very tough. Scholarship is available in 2 channels 1st is merit scholarship, the 2nd is merit cum need scholarship.
Eligibility criteria for placement is 21-22 for the the third year student there is placement after they complete the course the percentage is high so many companies come to our collage and test that they are eligible or not to do work in their company
They also offer on campus placements to crack interview, the eligibility criteria for placement is that you should have excellent Communication skills, and you should clear backlogs, there are 12 recruiters attented for on campus placement and offered a highest package as 8-9 LPA, and lowest package as 5-6 LPA, students who got placements have more than 75%, It's better to have better communication skills to crack an on-campus placement...
On campus placements are offered every year. The highest package last year was around 60 lakh while the lowest was 8lpa. Out of all the students only one student wasn't placed which gives us almost 100% placement rate. Almost all top companies visit our college including Google, Amazon, Facebook etc.
Placements are excellent. Top companies have hired freshers from here . My branch CSE has 100% placement rate and overall all branches have 99% placement rate . Usually students are offered on campus placements so there is no need to go for off campus opportunities
