Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS) is Rajasthan's leading state government university for veterinary education. It was established in 2010 under the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Act, 2010 and is headquartered in Bikaner. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), with approval from the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).

RAJUVAS does not currently participate in the NIRF rankings because it is a relatively new, specialised state veterinary university. Its 100-acre main campus houses the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CVAS), Bikaner. Across Rajasthan, the university manages three constituent colleges and 65 affiliated institutes offering animal husbandry diploma programmes.

  • BVSc and AH (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry): 5.5 years, comprising 5 years of study and a compulsory 6-month internship. It is available at CVAS Bikaner and CVAS Navania, Vallabhnagar, Udaipur.
  • MVSc: 17 specialisations, including Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary Pathology, Animal Nutrition, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, and Animal Biotechnology. The course is taught at the Post Graduate Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (PGIVER), Jaipur.
  • PhD: 12 specialisations covering veterinary and animal science subjects.
  • Diploma in Animal Husbandry: A 1-year course offered through affiliated institutes.

The BVSc and AH course costs INR 86,700 over 5 years, or INR 17,340 per year. The 2-year MVSc fee is INR 40,120, charged at INR 20,060 per year. SC, ST, OBC and EWS students may apply for merit-based support offered by the Rajasthan government and through the National Scholarship Portal, while PhD scholars can seek ICAR Junior Research Fellowships. RAJUVAS does not hold regular campus recruitment drives. Its graduates generally enter veterinary practice, public services, academic research, or the dairy and livestock sectors. Institutional data for 2022-23 reported a BVSc placement rate of 95% and an average salary of INR 4.69 LPA.

RAJUVAS Admission Process

Entry to RAJUVAS depends on national entrance examinations conducted by ICAR or NTA, or on the applicable state counselling process. BVSc selection is based on merit, and no management quota is available for its seats. The route used for each programme is shown in the admission stages below.

BVSc and AH Admission

NEET UG merit decides all BVSc and AH admissions. The Rajasthan Pre-Veterinary Test, commonly called RPVT, is no longer held. Rajasthan reservation rules apply: 85% of seats fall under the state domicile quota, and the Veterinary Council of India manages the remaining 15% All India quota.

  • Complete Class XII from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, securing at least 50% aggregate. The minimum for SC and ST applicants is 40%.
  • Meet the NEET qualifying level of the 50th percentile for General and EWS categories or the 40th percentile for SC, ST and OBC categories.
  • Provide a Rajasthan domicile certificate when applying for the 85% state quota.
  • Complete NEET UG, Rajasthan veterinary counselling registration, document checking, choice submission, seat allotment, fee payment and college reporting.

For each academic year, both CVAS Bikaner and CVAS Navania have 35 government seats and 50 payment-category seats for BVSc and AH. The government-category closing rank at CVAS Bikaner changes between admission years because each group of candidates has a different NEET score distribution.

MVSc Admission

Applicants for MVSc must take the ICAR-AIEEA PG examination held by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Preference and scholarship eligibility are available to candidates holding ICAR-JRF or SRF status. Applicants need a BVSc and AH degree from a VCI-recognised university with at least 60% aggregate.

PhD Admission

PGIVER admits PhD scholars through the ICAR-JRF or ASRB examination route. A relevant MVSc degree with a minimum 60% aggregate is required. PGIVER may also ask an applicant to submit a research proposal and attend an interview.

RAJUVAS Career Outcomes

Formal placement drives of the kind commonly held by engineering and management colleges are not part of the RAJUVAS system. Instead, BVSc and AH graduates can build careers in public veterinary services, the armed forces, research, teaching and private industry.

  • Indian Army Veterinary Corps: BVSc graduates may apply for a Short Service Commission in the Army Veterinary Corps.
  • Livestock and Dairy Industry: Dairy businesses, poultry integrators and cattle-feed companies appoint veterinarians to field and technical posts.
  • Animal Health Pharmaceuticals: Pharmaceutical companies hire veterinary graduates for fieldwork and regulatory positions in their animal health divisions.
  • NABARD and Co-operative Banks: Agricultural finance organisations recruit BVSc graduates for Development Officer roles.
  • Research and Academia: Graduates with MVSc or PhD qualifications can pursue teaching and research posts at universities, ICAR institutes and state animal husbandry departments.

RAJUVAS Campus and Infrastructure

Three constituent campuses make up the RAJUVAS network in Rajasthan. The 100-acre main campus in Bikaner is home to CVAS Bikaner. The city has a livestock-based economy and a camel research centre. University facilities include livestock farms, animal houses, research laboratories, veterinary clinics and a teaching hospital that treats both small and large animals.

CVAS Bikaner provides separate hostels for male and female students. Depending on the room category, the monthly hostel charge ranges from INR 1,980 to INR 3,800. Students also have access to a canteen, sports ground and essential campus amenities. In southern Rajasthan, CVAS Navania at Vallabhnagar, Udaipur offers another location for BVSc study.

PGIVER in Jaipur is the university's specialised centre for postgraduate teaching and research. It houses the MVSc and PhD courses along with advanced veterinary research facilities. Through 65 affiliated diploma institutes located across the state, RAJUVAS also brings animal husbandry education to rural communities.

RAJUVAS vs GADVASU vs MAFSU

Students considering state veterinary universities in northern and central India may compare RAJUVAS with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Punjab, and Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Maharashtra. Each is a state government veterinary university that uses NEET UG for BVSc admission.
