Thiruvalluvar University Admission Process
Admission requirements differ across undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated and research programmes. Tamil Nadu government reservation rules apply throughout the selection process.
UG Admission Through Affiliated Colleges
Each affiliated college manages admission to BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA and related undergraduate courses. Selection depends only on Class 12 board marks, so students must apply through the admission process of the college they choose. The reservation distribution is 26.5% for BC, 20% for MBC, 18% for SC/SCA, 1% for ST and 30.5% for the General category.
PG Admission Through Merit, TANCET or University CET
- MBA and MCA: Applicants must take the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test and hold a valid TANCET score. The university ranks applicants by their scores and also considers the Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.
- MA, M.Sc non-lab, M.Com and M.L.I.Sc: Selection is based on final undergraduate marks. Applications are submitted through the university portal during the assigned period, which is usually from June to July.
- M.Sc lab-based and M.Sc Computer Science: Applicants need at least 50% in the relevant B.Sc degree. They must take the university's Common Entrance Test, after which the university prepares a merit ranking.
- Integrated M.Sc: Admission is decided by merit using Class 12 Science marks.
The General-category closing rank for the university's MBA changes from one admission cycle to another because it depends on the number of applicants competing for seats in that session.
Ph.D Admission
For Ph.D admission, applicants must clear the university's Research Entrance Test, also called CET. The minimum postgraduate score is 55%, while SC and ST applicants need 50%. Students who qualify are interviewed by the doctoral committee. The university releases a separate Ph.D CET notice on its official website for each academic year.
