For a number of reasons, including preparing for doctoral-level philosophy studies, intellectual and professional development in preparation for other careers like law, journalism, or politics, and a deeper understanding of philosophical topics for their own sake, the program is well-suited for students seeking additional training in philosophy. Before applying to the program, prospective applicants are encouraged to speak with the Graduate Coordinator about potential thesis topics.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Typically, applicants should have a BA with honors in philosophy or a related field.
Applications must include a statement of philosophical interests, two samples of written work (8–10 pages each), and any other relevant materials requested by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.
The deadline for applications is March 15th. Students wishing to apply for funding from the SSHRC must do so by February 1st.
After reviewing the files of applicants, the Philosophy Graduate Studies Committee will recommend someone be admitted to the program. The Department's member who is willing and able to serve as a thesis supervisor must satisfy the Committee.
