The Sociology Major aims to broaden students' sociological imaginations by pushing them to consider critically the processes that shape, preserve, and transform society. Students will be exposed to the conceptual and methodological tools necessary to conduct critical and reasoned analyses of all facets of social life, from small-scale micro-level social interaction to large-scale macro-level social institutions, through courses that examine the theoretical, philosophical, and historical development of the discipline. The study of social power and inequality, as well as the methods by which interlocking systems of domination define and shape the social condition of the individual and the group, are the main areas of focus for Mount Royal's sociology department.
