The goal of the Chemistry Major is to provide students with a strong foundation in general education, a focus on community learning, and exposure to all aspects of chemistry. Additionally, the program offers an optional concentration in analytical biochemistry, which focuses heavily on getting students ready for jobs in biochemistry labs or for future research. There is a significant experiential learning component to this major in terms of community service learning (CSL) and course-based lab experiences. These courses, which are heavy on CSL, are among the program's key components. As students work with issues that are relevant to their communities, they encourage the use of teams in their learning.
