The Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research also referred to as IIOR was established on 1st August 1977, as a leading research institute in India. It was set up by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research in Hyderabad, Telangana, and focuses on the study and development of oilseeds. The college offers Ph.D. degrees in Agriculture and admission is based on the AICE JRF/SRF Ph.D. entrance examination conducted by NTA.

The institute does not offer placement opportunities or campus interviews. But the degree is in good demand in government sectors, agricultural society. Candidates completing their Ph.D. can apply for jobs released by ICAR, or seed research companies. There are a number of jobs or projects released under the government of India's agricultural initiatives that interested candidates can be a part of.

The college does not provide any scholarships. However, candidates can avail of state government scholarships through the Telangana ePass facility. Also, there are various scholarships available for SC, ST, and OBC categories as well as women which gives complete reimbursement of the tuition fees paid during the course. IIOR's campus is equipped with well-staffed laboratories, guest houses, pilot plants, a museum, library, and a conference room are also located at the Institute. The campus is located 15.4 km away from Hyderabad railway station.
