V. O. Chidambaram College Admission Process

Admissions to regular UG and PG courses follow the rules of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. Affiliated colleges in Tamil Nadu do not use a common state entrance examination for UG Arts and Science admission, so VOC College prepares its UG selections from 10+2 marks. The route differs for MBA and research programmes.

All UG BSc programmesNo entrance test10+2 merit based on PCM or PCB, as applicable
MA, M.Com and M.Sc programmesNo entrance testUG merit or relevant subject marks

Steps to Apply

  1. Confirm that the academic requirements for the chosen course have been met.
  2. Submit the application through the college portal while admissions are open.
  3. For merit-based courses, wait for the relevant departmental or college merit list.
  4. Applicants to MBA or research courses must complete the applicable entrance, counselling, test or interview stages.
  5. Selected students must finish admission formalities within the period given by the college.

UG Programmes: BA, BSc, B.Com and BBA

  • Eligibility: Applicants must have passed 10+2 from a recognised board. Physical Science BSc courses require Physics and Mathematics at school level. Those seeking BSc Botany, Zoology, Plant Biology or Advanced Zoology need the Biology stream.
  • Selection: The college draws its merit list from aggregate 10+2 marks. Applications must reach the college portal during the announced admission window.

PG Programmes: MA, M.Sc and M.Com

The marks obtained in the relevant UG degree determine PG admission. Department-wise merit lists appear on the college notice board and website. Science applicants are generally expected to have at least 55 percent in the related BSc subject. For interdisciplinary and conservation-focused M.Sc courses, a UG qualification in any Life Sciences subject may be accepted.

MBA

MBA applicants need a bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50 percent aggregate marks. The minimum is 45 percent for SC/ST applicants. State CAP counselling requires a valid TANCET, MAT or CMAT score. The final college-level assessment consists of a Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Ph.D. and M.Phil.

MSU research regulations govern the annual Ph.D. admission process. A valid NET, JRF or Tamil Nadu SLET qualification allows an applicant to move directly to the research interview. Other applicants must pass the Departmental Research Entrance Test. Each VOC College department selects M.Phil. students through its own written test and interview.

V. O. Chidambaram College Cutoffs

Competition for science seats is high. In the first General Category merit list, BSc Physics and BSc Chemistry typically need PCM marks of 90 percent or higher at the 10+2 level.

CourseCategory and StageTypical Requirement

BSc ChemistryGeneral Category, first merit list90 percent and above in 10+2 PCM

The demand for these courses is linked to the college's national standing, including its 22nd NIRF College rank in 2025.
