Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Admission Dates 2027

The admission calendar for the 2027-28 session is expected to follow the previous cycle. UG applications are likely to begin in February 2027, while the PG application process is expected to start in April 2027. The dates below are tentative.

Selection methods differ by programme. Some courses use national or state entrance scores, while others admit students through merit in the qualifying examination.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Courses and Fees

MSU provides more than 100 programmes through the faculties of Arts, Science and Languages. Its academic options cover undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, diploma, certificate, M.Phil and PhD levels. The total three-year fee for each B.Sc course in AI and Machine Learning, Cyber Security or Data Science is INR 87,500. MBA, MCA and M.E. each cost INR 1,01,000 for two years. Across all M.A. programmes, the two-year fee ranges from INR 16,000 to INR 48,000.

For M.Sc students, Biotechnology has the highest listed two-year fee of INR 56,000. Mathematics and Statistics are the lowest-priced options at INR 30,000 for the complete course. MSU also runs D.Pharma, PG Diploma programmes in GST, Financial Management and Renewable Energy, and a Certificate Course in Library and Information Science.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Admission Process

MSU uses different admission routes for undergraduate, postgraduate and research courses. TANCET-linked programmes take part in Tamil Nadu's state counselling process. Most arts and science PG courses use marks from the qualifying degree, while B.Com selection considers CUET scores.

1. Choose a programme and check its academic eligibility requirements.
2. Complete the application through the university's official admission portal. Applicants to entrance-based courses must also register for the relevant examination.
3. Take CUET, TANCET, GATE or the university entrance examination when the selected programme requires it.
4. Wait for the applicable merit list, entrance result or counselling invitation.
5. Attend state counselling or the university interview when required, submit the necessary documents and pay the admission fee to confirm the seat.

UG Admission for B.Sc, B.Ed and Integrated Programmes

Marks-based selection applies to most undergraduate courses. B.Com applicants are assessed using their CUET scores, and its General Category closing score changes with the available seats and number of applicants. CUET is usually conducted in May.

• B.Sc in AI and ML, Cyber Security or Data Science requires 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
• Applicants to an Integrated B.Sc+M.Sc course must have studied the relevant science subject combination in Class 12.
• A 10+2 pass in the appropriate stream is required for Integrated B.A.+M.A. and Integrated B.Com+M.Com.
• B.Ed applicants need a graduation degree in the relevant teaching subject.

PG Admission for MBA, MCA and M.E.

Anna University conducts TANCET each year on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu. MBA and MCA applicants register for TANCET, take the examination and then join the state counselling process. For the General Category, MSU MBA TANCET cutoffs have usually been between 40 and 60.

• MBA applicants need a recognised bachelor's degree with at least 50 per cent aggregate in the General Category.
• MCA requires graduation with Mathematics and a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent.
• M.E. in CSE applicants must hold a B.E. or B.Tech degree in CSE or IT and have a valid TANCET or GATE score.

Admission to Other PG Programmes

A separate entrance test is not required for most M.Sc, M.A., M.Com, M.Lib, M.Ed and other PG courses. Selection is based on the applicant's marks in the qualifying degree after submission through the university portal. The usual minimum is 50 per cent for General Category students and 45 per cent for SC, ST and OBC students. Entry to M.Sc courses in Marine Science, Nano Science and Applied Geophysics also depends on subject-specific requirements connected to the applicant's undergraduate specialisation.

M.Phil and PhD Admission

Research admissions are offered in January and July. Applicants take the University Entrance Test and then attend a personal interview with the research supervisor. Those who have a valid UGC-NET, CSIR-NET or SLET qualification are generally excused from the written examination. A minimum of 55 per cent in the relevant PG degree is required for PhD admission.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Placements

Placement activity at MSU mainly serves postgraduate and integrated-course students. Through its placement cell, the university connects students with employers from IT services, manufacturing, banking, insurance, retail and other industries in the Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi corridors.

According to NIRF 2025 data for the 2024 placement season, 181 students from two-year PG programmes secured jobs. The group recorded a median salary of INR 3 LPA and a placement rate of 85 per cent.

Recruiting areas include IT services, education, pharmaceutical companies in the Tirunelveli industrial belt, and banking, financial services and insurance. Finance and Marketing MBA graduates have taken positions at regional public-sector bank branches and mid-sized private businesses. Many Biotechnology and Marine Science M.Sc graduates instead move into research fellowships, government employment or further study.

NIRF evaluates MSU in both the Universities and State Public Universities categories. The 2025 results placed it within India's top 35 state-funded universities and reported it in the 101 to 150 band for universities overall.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Campus and Infrastructure

MSU's 520-acre Abishekapatti campus in Tirunelveli contains its administrative buildings and 29 university departments. Student and research facilities include a central library, a central instrumentation facility and a Learning Management System used by the university departments and affiliated colleges.

Specialised research takes place at two additional campuses. The Sri Parama Kalyani Centre for Environmental Sciences is located on the 120-acre Alwarkurichi campus. At Rajakkamangalam, the 70-acre campus houses the Centre for Marine Sciences and Technology and provides access to coastal research facilities.

Separate hostels for male and female students provide a combined capacity of more than 1,000 residents. The main campus also has Wi-Fi, a gymnasium, facilities for cricket, football and basketball, and a health centre that offers emergency services. Research collaborations and academic programmes across the campuses are supported by video-conferencing facilities.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Scholarships

MSU students can seek university-funded merit awards as well as state and central government support. These schemes assist high-performing students, learners from economically weaker households and eligible SC, ST and OBC students. National application-based schemes are processed through the National Scholarship Portal.

Other options include the Kamaraj Trust Scholarship of INR 2,500 per year and the DAW Scholarship for applicants whose parent's annual income is below INR 2.5 Lakhs. Applications for government scholarship programmes must be filed through the National Scholarship Portal.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University vs Alagappa University vs Madurai Kamaraj University

Students looking at state-run affiliating universities in southern Tamil Nadu may compare MSU with Alagappa University in Karaikudi and Madurai Kamaraj University in Madurai. Their establishment years, campus sizes, service areas and main academic strengths differ.

The Rajakkamangalam coastal campus gives MSU dedicated infrastructure for Marine Science research. Madurai Kamaraj University is the oldest of the three and has the largest affiliated-college network across central and southern Tamil Nadu. Alagappa University's established distance education division makes it an option for working professionals. A student's preferred university will depend on the chosen programme and home district.
