Bengaluru, 11th July, 2023: The Global Futures: Career and Cultural Experience leadership program held in Bengaluru witnessed a successful conclusion as it was jointly organized by the University of Bristol and NMIMS Bengaluru. Over the course of three days, this in-person program at NMIMS Bengaluru aimed to offer 19 students from the University of Bristol and 26 students from NMIMS Bengaluru an enriching intercultural and career-focused experience. The program comprised immersive activities, internships, and a reflective workshop, all designed to enhance the participants' skills and broaden their horizons

Common Purpose, a renowned global not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting good leadership, successfully orchestrated the Global Futures program. This transformative initiative aimed to unite students from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering the development of their leadership abilities and cultivating cross-cultural understanding. With a specific emphasis on equipping the next generation of leaders, the program focused on imparting the skills and competencies required to navigate a rapidly evolving and disrupted world. By bringing together participants from various cultures, the Global Futures program facilitated the exchange of ideas, perspectives, and experiences, fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking community of future leaders.

The program provided participating students with a comprehensive three-stage journey. In Stage 1, known as "Immersions," students were fully immersed in the vibrant culture of the host city. Throughout a three-day period, they actively engaged in a range of carefully designed activities and interactions aimed at fostering a profound understanding of the local context and promoting cross-cultural appreciation. These immersive experiences enabled students to acquire valuable insights into the dynamics of the city, its decision-making processes, and the social fabric that shapes it. By actively participating in these activities, students gained a deeper appreciation for the host city's unique characteristics and developed a heightened awareness of its cultural nuances.

Students were given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world setting in Stage 2: Internships. During their placements, they contributed actively to meaningful projects with clear objectives and outcomes. Students actively supported the organization's goals, same time they are gaining practical experience in their respective field such as collaborating with professionals and sharing their innovative ideas

The culmination of the program was Stage 3: Participants came together to reflect on their internship experience in a one-day workshop. The aim of this session was to encourage the self-reflection of the students, provision of knowledge sharing and also provide the facility to integrate the learning with each other. By coming together and exchanging insights, participants were able to gain a deeper understanding of their internship journey, celebrate their achievements, and shape their aspirations for the future.

The Global Futures program showcased a lineup of distinguished speakers and industry leaders who shared their expertise and insights on employability skills and the specific demands of the Bangalore workforce. The program featured an impressive roster of contributors, including Sandeep Agarwal, EVP of Digital Business Services at Visionet Systems Inc.; Bharathi Govindasamy, IT Leader at Philips; Chandru Iyer, Deputy High Commissioner of Karnataka and Kerala; representatives from Accenture; Naomi Menon, Center Director at Linguaphile; Rituparna Mandal, General Manager at MediaTek; and Vivek Subramaniam, General Manager at Fidelity, among many other notable individuals.

According to the students, their visits to Visionet and Philips proved to be transformative experiences that broadened their horizons and introduced them to new job prospects in a world where the rise of artificial intelligence often raises concerns about job displacement. The students expressed that engaging with professionals at these companies provided them with valuable perspectives on a wide range of career opportunities. They were particularly inspired by Visionet's cutting-edge work and the significant impact it has in its field, which left them feeling encouraged and exposed them to the corporate culture firsthand. Furthermore, the visit to Philips showcased the company's commitment to innovation, as they explored healthcare products such as MRI machines, CT scan machines, and ultrasound machines the size of a mobile phone.

Dr. Narayani Ramachandran, Deputy Director of NMIMS Bengaluru, expressed her satisfaction with the success of the Global Futures leadership program organized by Common Purpose in Bangalore. She described the program as a transformative experience for the students, emphasizing how it expanded their horizons and equipped them with vital leadership skills. Dr. Ramachandran found it inspiring to observe the growth and development of the students throughout the program.
