SVKM’s NMIMS Bangalore campus partnered with the esteemed American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) to keep up its commitment to building ESG sensitivity among its students. AICPA is the largest network of accounting and finance professionals in the world with a presence in 58 countries. On 22nd and 23rd January 2024, SVKM’s NMIMS Bangalore collaborated with these professional bodies for the first time to organize an Academic Conclave. The core focus of the collaboration was emerging trends of ESG and Sustainability practices in the business world.

During the event, the uncovering of the pre-release of the case study book (with ISBN) took place. The book titled, “ESG: Delivering & Creating Resilient Stakeholder Value - Case Study on the Best Practices in ESG & Sustainability” was unveiled under the guidance of the esteemed director of SVKM’s NMIMS Bangalore, Dr. Narayani Ramachandran, Dr Kavitha Desai, Programme Chair - BBA, and Prof. Dileep G. Menon, Programme Chair - B Com Programme from the campus.

Various industry leaders and experts across the country were present at the event. These include Mr. Krishnan Ravindran, Director, PwC Academy; Mr. Nishant Priyadarshi, Chief Business Officer, Upgrad Campus; Mr. Veena Haran, Partnerships Director, Evolve Careers; Mr. Andrew Harding, Chief Executive - Management Accounting, AICPA & CIMA; and many others.

SVKM’s NMIMS Bangalore Spearheads Discussions on ESG

SVKM’s NMIMS Bangalore campus always adopts emerging trends in both academia and business at the earliest. The institute does this with its focus on creating well-rounded professionals with an understanding of the latest demands of the industry.

Because of this, SVKM’s NMIMS Bangalore campus includes important subjects in its curriculum including sustainable finance, green markets, sustainable marketing practices, workplace diversity, and inclusion. This helps students with the skills and knowledge relevant to contemporary industry standards.

ESG and its role for educators, the future of ESG, and innovation and inclusion in the business world were the topics discussed by the experts and industry leaders at the event. The participants in the event also supported innovations in academia to meet the growing trends of ESG. and at last, the participants discussed the theme, “The Evolving Landscape of Finance: A Global Perspective.”

Dr. Narayani Ramachandran also expressed her views about the need for ESG implementation in business. She also spoke about the current sustainable business trends and also stressed green-collar careers for students. She also discussed briefly some of the case studies mentioned in the book, ‘ESG: Delivering & Creating Resilient Stakeholder Value’, and also emphasized the importance of collaboration with AICPA and CIMA.

The book, ‘ESG: Delivering & Creating Resilient Stakeholder Value’ mentions case studies about diverse sectors including consumer goods, animal rights advocacy, sustainable fashion, corporate gifting, e-waste management, tourism, and banking, emphasizing real-world applications of ESG principles. Each research emphasized the positive impact of adopting environmentally conscious practices and revealed innovative approaches toward attaining ESG objectives. By sharing these influential narratives, the program demonstrated its role as a forum for the exchange of knowledge and promoting the incorporation of sustainable practices in various sectors.

Dr. Narayani Ramachandran spoke at the event and said, “Academia must embrace the implementation of ESG parameters. Our collaboration with AICPA and CIMA and is an important step in that direction. The distinguished industry leaders associated with CIMA and AICPA have implemented numerous initiatives in their respective fields to foster a sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
