The subjects including Engineering, Mathematics, and statistics are evolving constantly. Trends emerging from these subjects and their technological advancements provide a lot of opportunities. Developments in these domains can bring innovation and transformation and also can bring researchers, academics, learners, and enthusiasts together for interdisciplinary collaboration.

On 22-23 December 2023, SVKM’s NMIMS Indore hosted an International Conference on Recent Trends in Mathematics, Statistics and Engineering (ICRTMSE) for 2 days. The conference was conducted to promote interdisciplinary research, develop collaboration, and extend the limits of knowledge in important areas of subjects including Mathematics, Statistics, and Engineering. Professionals, researchers, and academics from all over the world participated in this two-day international conference. The conference offered a collaborative platform for the participants to discuss and exchange recent and critical findings, insights, and innovations in their respective fields. The conference was held in hybrid mode and it featured different sessions such as keynote addresses, plenary talks, plenary talks, and parallel technical sessions. These sessions provided the participants with valuable perspectives on the challenges and latest trends in these fields. Moreover, the speakers also discussed the interconnectedness of the three domains and the potential for cross-disciplinary collaborations.

Dr. Caria M. A. Pinto, Professor at the School of Engineering, Polytechnic of Porto, Portugal, delivered her keynote address, ‘Modelling the Dynamics of Dengue and SARS-CoV-2 Co-infection.' In this keynote address, Dr Caria M. A. Pinto proposed a mathematical model to study the dynamics of the co-infection of COVID-19 and dengue fever in a susceptible population. Targeting mosquito larvae and adult mosquitoes, and vaccinating people against both dengue and COVID-19 were the two strategies she presented in her keynote address. She also discussed her ongoing research and how the simulation of disease spread under different conditions using a computer model. According to her, the experiment will help identify patterns in the spread of the disease, determine the most effective strategies to mitigate their effect and shape health policies helpful in dealing with the infections.

Dr M. Tanveer, Associate Professor Department of Mathematics, IIT Indore, delivered his topic, ‘Large Scale Twin Support Vector Machines and Applications.’ In his topic, Dr M Tanveer discussed the Support Vector Machines (SVMs), and the classic machine learning algorithm. Based on the fast technological advancements, he discussed the limitations and strengths of the SVMs. He also shared his thoughts about the significant developments of twin SVMs and other types that emerged over the past ten years. He also discussed the improvements that can be made within the SVMs to beat the emerging challenges caused due to rapid technological advancements.

DR Sarika Jalan, Professor Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology, Indore delivered her keynote address, ‘Success of Network Theory for Modelling Complex Systems.’ In her keynote address, Dr Sarika Jalan discussed the remarkable success of ‘Network Science’ in the past two decades. She spoke about the importance of network systems in understanding complex systems ranging from the human brain to the World Wide Web.

The two-day international conference provided invaluable insights and the attendees were able to learn about the advancements in the three domains including Mathematics, Statistics, and Engineering. Attendees were able to expand their understanding and knowledge as they were exposed to the latest advancements and innovations in the subjects. Students were also exposed to emerging issues by the experts and thought leaders while delivering their keynote addresses and panel discussions.

Dr Ajit Singh, Conference Convenor, STEM, NMIMS Indore expressed his thoughts about the success of this conference. Dr Ajit Singh said, “The International Conference was a remarkable confluence of researchers, academics and enthusiastic students having a keen interest in the vast realms of Mathematics, Statistics and Engineering. The conference turned out to be an effective forum for knowledge exchange and collaborative exploration. The incredible success of the conference is a reflection of NMIMS’ commitment to promoting innovation and collaborative learning among students.”

Dr Anshuman Jaswal, Director, NMIMS Indore also spoke about the ICRTMSE conference. Expressing his thoughts, Dr Anshuman Jaswal said, ““The conference served as a great forum for faculty and students to enhance their knowledge, inspire innovative thinking, and foster a deeper understanding of the constantly evolving landscape of Mathematics, Statistics, and Engineering in line with NMIMS’ objectives of imparting future-ready learning.”
