In August 2023, SAMATVA - The Legal Aid & CSR Society of NMIMS Indore, partnered with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Indore and effectively orchestrated a Legal Aid Camp in Hatod, Indore.

The camp received an enthusiastic response from the Hatod residents and notable dignitaries, culminating in a remarkable achievement. The event was graced by the presence of distinguished individuals including Adv. Ishwarchandra Solanki and Adv. Sajjan Singh Solanki, both Panel advocates of DLSA, Indore, Mr. Satyanarayan Mandloi, Principal of Government Inter College, Hatod, Mr. Akshay Jain, a Journalist, and Dr. Ashutosh Hajela, Associate Dean of the School of Law at NMIMS Indore. The faculty coordinators of SAMATVA, Mr. Aman Deep Singh, Assistant Professor, and Ms. Sunistha Moghe, Assistant Professor, both from the School of Law at NMIMS-Indore, were also present at the event.

The camp included a free legal aid booth, sensitization by experts on several topics such as 'Protection against domestic violence', 'Prevention of child labour and child sexual abuse', and 'Information on several government schemes'. Residents of the legal aid camp also watched documentaries on fundamental rights, sexual harassment at work, and girl child education.

The students also performed a street play about female feticide and the ever-present dowry system.NMIMS students undertook a door-to-door sensitization and survey campaign across 10 wards of the Hatod tehsil to raise awareness about these concerns. Approximately 50 residents from neighboring villages approached the free legal aid booth seeking assistance with a range of issues, primarily centered around topics such as domestic violence, maintenance, old age, and widow pension, as well as accessing various government schemes. The legal aid booth was staffed by Prof. Sunishtha Moghe from NMIMS Indore, along with panel advocates from DLSA, Indore.

During the event, Dr. Ashutosh Hajela highlighted the significance of legal literacy within society. Prof. Aman Deep Singh elaborated on the wide-ranging opportunities within the realm of legal education and provided guidance to students on pursuing this field. Numerous students from Hatod actively engaged with our faculty members, seeking insights and advice on the pathways and avenues to embark upon a legal education journey.

Residents and officials of Nagar Parishad, Hatod, along with the District Legal Services Authority, Indore, unwaveringly supported the Legal Aid Camp. SAMATVA, the Legal Aid Society of NMIMS, remains committed to fostering legal awareness, empowering communities, and providing justice to all.
