Mumbai, India on 25th May 2023: An event on 20th April 2023 organized by Education New Zealand (ENZ), Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the world's leading provider of university rankings and evaluations, and NMIMS University entitled Ranking Workshop - Process & Progress with QS: Inclusion & Improvement in Asia and World University Rankings Landscape. During the event, delegates from eight New Zealand Universities, ENZ, and Indian Universities met to network, share ideas, and explore potential education collaborations.

Workshop participants discussed how collaboration can support university rankings, as well as how research partnerships appear in QS Asia and World University Rankings (WUR). The workshop offered both a beginner's and an advanced understanding of rankings. The next edition of QS World University Rankings and the methodology revision were discussed in the workshop

According to QS, institutions seeking ranking must offer both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in at least two of the broad five areas of faculty. Every year, 1400 are reported for the world and 700 are reported for Asia. These are the published threshold. The threshold for inclusion in the world ranking is 100 papers in Scopus over the last five years, as well as being ranked in the top 50% of a regional ranking (Asia). The top 30% of academic reputations also depend on institutions' characteristics.

The importance of continuous improvement are emphasized by the QS Regional Director for Africa, Middle East, and South Asia and an ambassador of the quality movement in education, Dr. Ashwin Fernandes. . "We aim to provide a benchmark for institutions seeking global recognition by setting these standards and continuously evolving them over time," he said. In addition, he stated that the QS Rankings are designed to support students in making decisions about higher education, so they should be relevant to them.

The importance of strong relationship-building with international partners has been highlighted by Mr. Grant McPherson, Chief Executive of Education New Zealand.

“All eight universities from New Zealand are represented in this session, demonstrating our commitment to collaborating and finding solutions for our researchers, students, and academics,” he said.

ENZ organised New Zealand India Education Week from 17th April to 22nd April to strengthen the education relationship between India and New Zealand and also to encourage dialogue on research, innovation and education cooperation. 23 representatives from eight New Zealand universities and government agencies, including a ranking workshop are featured in this week
