NExT Exam will be held in February 2028 for MBBS Batch of 2024. According to the National Medical Commission (NMC) announcement, the MBBS 2024 Batch will be the first edition of the National Exit Test (NExT).

In the document "Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) Regulations 2023 PDF," the National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially revealed the forthcoming academic calendar. It has been declared that the NExT Step 1 examination is scheduled to take place in February 2028 and the Step 2 examination will be held in February 2029. 

MBBS students of the 2023-2024 batch will be the pioneering batch of the inaugural NExT Step 1 examination.

Previously NExT mock test was going to be held on July 28, 2023, but according to Commission (NMC) the mock test is canceled and the registration fee will also be refunded for the same. 

On 13th July, the National Medical Commission (NMC) took the decision to defer the NExT Exam until further notice. This decision was made following the advice provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

On August 1, the Commission released the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) 2023 Curriculum Regulations. These regulations specified that universities must structure their admission scheduling and procedures to commence the first professional year on August 1, starting from the academic year 2024-25. Furthermore, admissions for any academic session starting after August 30 will not be permitted. 

Will NExT Exam be Easier or Challenging?

Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Rae Bareli during the inauguration of various units, including an emergency department reassured that the newly introduced NExT (National Exit Test) will not be more challenging than the National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test (NEET). 

However, it's important to note that MBBS degree recipients will continue to obtain their degrees from their respective universities and colleges. To be eligible for postgraduate seats, candidates will need to successfully clear the NExT examination. This step aims to ensure a standardized evaluation for postgraduate admissions while maintaining the quality of medical education.
