- The options for courses are more and specific. Companies are willing to take you for internship or placement because you have a NIFT tag.
Dislikes
- The education is not as fun and as open minded as it should be for a creative field. You don't really get to experiment or explore as much as you should be, there is more emphasis on completing the 75% attendance goal and deadlines then getting the students to add a more creative ideation to their projects.
Remarks :
There is an intensive 2 step admission test starting from GAT (general ability test) and CAT (creative ability test) both take place on 1 day. GAT tests your general knowledge with basic questions related to maths, current affairs, mental ability and english. And CAT is for testing your drawing skills and your ability to interpret how well you can recieve very specific directions and implement them in a creative manner. Once you qualify these tests than after a month you are called for a situation test which is round 2 at the nearest NIFT campus. In this test you're given random objects/materials and are asked to create a 3d model in accordance to the objective mentioned. This is to test your creative functioning and ability to utilise what's given and implement a brand new ideation accordingly.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Knitwear design focuses specifically on the construction and composition of knit based fabrics and garments like sweaters, t-shirts, sportswear, lingerie, etc. The faculties are well worsed but not always in the subject specified to them. But in such cases we do get well versed faculties from other centers as well who'd visit for a week or 2 and give precise knowledge of the subject. The difficulty and questioning in term exams keep increasing with each semester. The real challenge starts once you enter your specific department by 2nd year.
Internships Opportunities :
Internship offers start coming up during the 7th semester which is right before industry internship. Companies like Myntra, Arvind ltd., Aditya Birla, etc., make offers for internship followed by placement on successful completion of internship. Before this we have to do a 2 month summer internship as we'll after the end of 3rd year for which faculties help you to find internship or you can find on your own.
Placement Experience :
Companies go for placements only in campuses which is closest to their offices however all the NIFT centers are shared the details about which companies are coming to which campus with the dates. You can choose to go to any other campus and sit for placements. Fashion communication students get the maximum placement offers with highest paying packages going upto 2500000/annum. Companies like samsung, dmart, reliance, etc. come for placements. Around 30-40% of students get secured placement with good offers.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
For students taking admission under general category fee starts from 1.5 lakhs per semester with a 10% hike added each sem, going upto 2 lakhs by the 7th semester in the total course duration of 8 semesters, this includes tuition, library, mediclaim and exam fees that's charged per semester bases. Registration fees is rs. 2000 taken during the time of entrance exam registration and a security deposit of 30,000 is charged along with 1st semester tuition during the time of admission which is to be paid immediately right after the counselling within a day. There is also an option of NRI admission where you get the seat by paying extra which is 6 lakhs per semester for campuses like shillong, kangra, raebareli, kannur, etc. and 9 lakhs per semester for Delhi, Mumbai, Banglore and other major cities. There is an option for udaan scholarship where you get concession upto 60% based upon your performance and an interview round which happens every year.
Campus Life :
It used to be fun but it basically depends on the director you get. The city kannur is not very full of life itself and that's what causes problems. Other than that the life inside campus can be pretty fun, there's always some events or competitions going on and NIFT kannur also started this tradition of a tgiw every Wednesday where you dress up on a theme and have a dance party. Onam is a huge celebration here. Though the resource centre could use some upgradation, there aren't a lot of books but yes you do get access to all your fashion forecasting journals and all additions of promostyle. We have an annual fest with the name of spectrum where a number of sports and extra curricular events happen and stalks and everything are put up and then there's converge as well which is inter college sports and extra curricular compition which is held in different campuses each year.
Hostel Facilities :
There are 2 hostels 1 inside and 1 right outside the campus, inside hostel is accessible to students from 2nd-4th year (girls only), this one has limited options of ac rooms, given on first come first serve basis. The second hostel is where all the 1st year students stay ( girls only), there are no ac rooms available here. Boys have to look for an accommodation nearby themselves. Hostel fees is paid seperately in the finance department which is 5000/month for non ac rooms and 1000/month for ac ones. It is paid on yearly basis. Only final year semester students are allowed to pay semester wise as they have to choose for internship outside or design project in campus in the final semester. Room options: - 3 sharing non ac with common washroom - 3 sharing ac with attached washroom - 2 sharing ac with common washroom Mess fee is also paid seperately to the contractor, however the food quality and menu is not very good and is repetitive.

I chose Computer Science and Engineering (AI & ML) because of my interest in technology, programming, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The curriculum follows KTU regulations and covers both theory and practical subjects. Most faculty members are qualified . Internal exams and semester exams are conducted on time. The difficulty level is moderate to a lil bit high and students who attend classes regularly can perform well.

Minimum criteria for placement is for a student with minimum arrears.Even though supply there if you have skill then you will be placed .Amal Jyothi has a better placement compared to other college and is very good
