An honest summary of Marian Engineering College ~ from a student.
Likes
- The campus size is fairly big, it offers a lot of greenery giving us a positive vibe. It also has huge grounds where we can play sports like cricket, football etc. They also have basketball and tennis courts.
- The faculty here is dedicated into teaching. They regularly engage with us, ensuring we understand the syllabus properly. Most of our faculties are ladies, so they make us feel like we all are part of a family.
- The college offers different buildings for different departments and has facilities like computer labs, electronic and electrical workshops, Mechanical labs, Libraries, a prayer hall, a big auditorium etc. They also provide a canteen and a cafeteria from where we can order lunch and snacks after paying money.
Dislikes
- The college management is typically strict, expecting us to dress in proper uniform. In first year, we can't leave our block and freely roam around. We need written permission to leave the campus. We cant use smarphones in classes and they can sieze them if we do otherwise.
- We don't have a lot of extra curricular activies, since our management mainly focuses on academics and good results. We might occasionally have arts day every year. We also have onam and Christmas celebrations, but they won't be so great. If our exams are nearing, the celebrations can be cancelled. We do have some clubs, but for most of the time, they are just disfunctional.
- For attending workshops conducted by other colleges, they typically won't provide duty leaves to students.
- Certain classrooms look poorly maintained and will need an upgrade. Certain benches are fragile and can break easily. In computer labs, certain computers might not even turn on properly which they won't inform and we will only discover it after we try to turn them on.
Remarks :
One main reason why I chose this college was because it was very near to my home. Since I never got admission to any desired colleges through the KEAM examination, Marian Engineering college was a decent choice amomg all the private colleges in my area since it offered decent placements. If we're applying for a management seat, they would do a short interview on us which won't really matter since they only ask mainly for the reason why we chose the desired course. But the main deciding factor would be our +2 marks and our KEAM score. There are chances where we won't get our desired course, so they will offer us seats for other branches. For those who are selected for merit based admission through KEAM, the admission is guaranteed. The college offers a fairly big campus with greenery, sports grounds and basketball courts. They do offer facilities like libraries, laboratories for different departments etc, but some classrooms look like they might need some maintainance or an upgrade.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Our college follows the curriculum based on the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University syllabus. In the first year, as computer science students, we will also study subjects from other branches like electronics, electrical, graphical drawing, life skills etc. Since they regularly conduct test papers and series examinations, combined with the lengthy syllabus which is very difficult to keep up with, the course would be difficult for many students like me. Around 50% of the students fail in atleast one subject in first year, mostly in Graphical Drawing. The faculty over here is fully dedicated into teaching and they ensure that the students understand the topics being taught and they regularly engage with us.
Internships Opportunities :
No, but there are internship programs available from the first year itself. They occur typically during vacation time. But during our last year, we have to compulsary go for an internship as per our curriculum.
Placement Experience :
The college do attract placements from IT companies nearby, like UST global and many other companies based in Technopark situated nearby the campus. We can't expect decent packages from them, and typically the packages start from 4-5 LPA. If we perform explicitaly well in academics, huge companies like Bosch or Intel can select mostly just a single student from our college. Since I would be expecting a higher starting package, I would most probably go for specialisation courses like Cyber security or Ethical hacking from where we can potentially get offers from better companies offering better packages hopefully.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Since I got admission through a management quota, the initial academic fee for management seats is around 100000 per year. For merit based admissions for those who qualified through KEAM examination in Kerala, the academic fee is around ?80000 per year for general category. For those who qualified with reservation (SC/ST), the fees is further reduced to around 50000-60000 per year. There is a caution deposit of 20000 common for all categories which we have to pay extra. The bus fees would range from 9000 to 30000 per year based on the distance. They don't really offer any scholarships since they're a privately run institution, so we can't expect for any such.
Campus Life :
The college offers a huge campus which also contains Arts/Commerce colleges run by the same management. The campus offers a lot of greenery, sports grounds, badminton and basketball courts. We have different blocks for different departments. But as a private college, they won't offer a lot of freedom. We can't freely roam around in first year and we can't leave our block till the classes end. We can't use smartphones in classes and they can sieze our phones if we do otherwise. They expect us to dress properly in uniform, and we can't leave the campus itself without written permission. The college do offer some clubs, but as a private college, they put most of their attention into our academics. We will occassionally have an arts fest once an year. We also have Onam and Christmas celebrations, but there are chances they can be cancelled especially if exams are nearing.
Hostel Facilities :
I have not opted for hostel. But from the opinion of my fellow hostelers, the hostel is actually good and the food is also nice. The hostel offers mainly rooms shared by 2 people each. They offer breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner based on the menu for each day of the week and they have a dining room. The rent is around ?30000 per year along with the food costing ?3000 per month.

college provide best on their placements , as a part of making college to be best at the era . principal told to our batch that they will provide 50% of placements , i am glad to be in this batch because sometimes i may get a college placement to make an expirence for the future jobs

Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose Computer Science and Engineering (AI & ML) because of my interest in technology, programming, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The curriculum follows KTU regulations and covers both theory and practical subjects. Most faculty members are qualified . Internal exams and semester exams are conducted on time. The difficulty level is moderate to a lil bit high and students who attend classes regularly can perform well.

Most of the faculties are bds or mds graduated and well knowledged. Classes are mainly powerpoint presentation based and seminars. There are 2 internals and one model examination based on which qualification for university exam is determined.

I love zoology.. I want to build my career on this subject. My faculty has phd.. She teaches well.. I could understand all concepts very easily. There are internal exams. I am studying four year fyugp course. So there is only one internal. And then there is sem exms at last. If u study well u could score good marks. Little difficulty
