- Seniors:- They are the best and without their hospitability, we would not have experienced the Kottayam Medical college to the best. From day 1 onwards, they supported us, taught us what books to buy, what all things to purchase and where to buy. Most of all, they guided us as we were clueless.
- Classroom:- It was recently modified by 1983 MBBS Batch. Now, it has around 6 ACs, a lot of fans which keeps us cool during hot climate and also a big digital touch screen and projector along the side of the touch screen.
- Variety of Fests and programmes:- They even invite famous DJs, musicians, actors, actresses for variety of programmes like Ethnic day, Christmas, Ifthar, Onam etc. There is also a PG night party conducted every year.
- Dress code:- Unlike other medical colleges, there is no specific dress and we can wear whatever clothes we want for classes, although white coat is a must.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure can be a bit disappointing. It is not that worse and it is also not that best either. There are dust particles everywhere around the college building(C2 block), spider webs and other waste products around the ledges and they hardly clean it.
- Faculty:- Although the faculty members are kind and friendly and help us in whatever way they can. A few can be intolerable and they even punish students for minor mistakes. A few students might dislike that.
- Classes schedule:- There is one class in the morning and for the next class, we have to walk for like a kilometer to reach there since it is a big building and for 2nd year students, they have to go to every departments for their postings classes, which are situated here and there, like they are scattered. And also a vehicle is must(or optional) from 2nd year onwards as they have different classes for different students in each departments.
Remarks :
There were around 10 government medical colleges in our state(Kerala). I chose this college because it was near to my home and also it is one of the top medical colleges in the state. To get admission to this college, you must clear the NEET exam and must have registered in the KEAM portal for availing seats via state quota and in the NTA portal for availing in All India Quota. The cut-off marks for getting admission to Kottayam Medical College vary each year and as a general rule, a minimum of 640 marks is necessary for getting admission in the case of general and OBC students. Also, there are few seats reserved for disability, nurses quota, sports quota(individual & team), NCC, etc. There is also 1 seat reserved for Jammu & Kashmir students, but it varies each year and shifts to other colleges of Kerala. On the admission day, there may be a short interview with the principal.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose this course(MBBS) since I always wanted to be a doctor and serve people since I was little. As we know, the MBBS course is 5.5 years + 1-year internship, so it is going to be a little hectic. The faculty teaching us is good as they prepare ppt slides and explain to us everything also most of the faculty members are PGs and they are very friendly and cooperative. Although, I admit a few professors can be sometimes rude and intolerant. There are a total of 4 exams, 3 internal exams, and 1 Final Exam(that is the University exam). To be eligible to write the university exam, you need to secure a pass mark in 3 of the internal exams(including the practical exams). The internal exams are conducted 3 months apart starting from the date of the commencement of class. so it can be difficult to understand the subjects and hardly any students pass the internal exams. There are scholarships like National Portal, MCM, and ones that benefits OBC, SC, and ST students
Campus Life :
It is marvelous and it is beyond my expectations. I expected that the campus life would be boring and mundane as there are not enough facilities since it is a government college. But thanks to our seniors, postgraduates, and alumni of our college, they made the college more enjoyable and friendly for every one of us. Once I enjoyed the college, there was a fest called 'Kappayum Kattanum' conducted by union members which was the introductory program where we danced, and there was music, DJ, and a lot more and there was another fest called 'Kerivada Makkale' where we partied, played games, etc. There is also a library where all the standard as well as guide books, and reference books are present and we can study peacefully there are also tabs for studying via Prepladder free of cost. There are social groups organized by the alumni and students like Jesus Youth etc and clubs like BLISS, SAKHI, RITHU, SAYAHNAKOOTAM, etc. The hostel is almost good although some prefer to eat outside.

I chose Computer Science and Engineering (AI & ML) because of my interest in technology, programming, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The curriculum follows KTU regulations and covers both theory and practical subjects. Most faculty members are qualified . Internal exams and semester exams are conducted on time. The difficulty level is moderate to a lil bit high and students who attend classes regularly can perform well.
