The National Overseas Scholarship is a need-based Indian scholarship program that aims to provide financial support to economically backward students who want to study master’s or doctoral degrees in the best universities in UK, Germany, USA, etc. This award is offered by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

• The winners of this scholarship program will get an amount of $15,400 (12,73,948.83 INR) that can be used to pay the tuition fees and support the other expenses that include traveling charges, medical expenses, food, accommodation, etc.
• 30% of seats of the national overseas scholarship scheme are reserved for the female candidates.
• There are a total of 100 scholarships under the National Overseas Scholarship.
• To get this scholarship, candidates have to enroll in the master’s or doctoral degree in the top universities in countries like the USA, UK, etc.

Applicable Courses

Candidates must be enrolled in the master’s or doctoral degree in the top universities in Canada, UK, USA, Germany, etc.

• Master’s degree: 3 years
• Doctoral degree: 4 years

The applicable courses are:

• Engineering and Management: 32 seats
• Pure Sciences and Applied Sciences: 17 seats
• Agricultural Sciences and Medicine: 17 seats
• International Commerce Accounting and Finance: 17 seats
• Humanities and Social Sciences: 17 seats

Total Slots in the Overseas Scholarship for SC students

There are total 100 seats in the national overseas scholarship scheme for SC 2022 23:

• Landless agricultural laborers and traditional artisans: 4 seats
• Nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes: 6 seats
• Scheduled tribes: 90 seats

National Overseas Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates applying for this scholarship program must be interested in pursuing higher studies in top universities in countries like Germany, USA, UK, etc.
• Interested candidates must belong to Scheduled Castes (SC)/Denotified Nomadic Tribes, Semi-Nomadic Tribes/Landless Agricultural Laborers/Traditional Artisans.
• Candidates who are interested to pursue the doctoral degree in the top universities abroad have to score a minimum 60% marks in the master’s program.
• Candidates who are interested to pursue the master’s degree in the top universities abroad have to score a minimum 60% marks in the bachelor's degree.
• Students applying for the scholarship must be below the age of 35 years on the first day of selection procedure.
• Candidates have to clear the standardized tests such as GRE, GMAT, etc and English language proficiency tests such as IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, etc., with the minimum score requirement.
• Only 2 children from the same parent will get the benefits of the National Overseas Scholarship.

Who’s not Eligible?

• Candidate’s having family income more than INR 6,00,000 are not eligible to apply for this scholarship panel.
• Students interested to pursue a bachelor’s degree cannot apply for this scholarship.
• Indian students who are already studying abroad cannot get the National Overseas Scholarship.
