Vikram University Courses and Fees

Across its teaching departments and affiliated institutes, Vikram University has more than 140 programmes. Government support and state university fee rules keep many arts, science and commerce courses less expensive than private university options. Conventional BE programmes also carry a programme-level fee figure of INR 27,000, while the annual charge for the listed branches is INR 27,000. Students should confirm the applicable fee period before paying.

For students across Madhya Pradesh, charges such as INR 14,000 for a 2-year MA help make study affordable. Vedic Studies, Jyotirvigyan, Yoga and Ancient Indian History connect closely with Ujjain’s heritage. These specialised subjects are less widely available at other Indian state universities.

Vikram University Admission Process

For the 2026-27 session, admission routes differ by course. Professional programmes use centralised Madhya Pradesh selection processes, while arts, science and commerce courses also have direct admission based on marks. These routes cover university teaching departments and affiliated colleges. Students should check the official admission notices for the instructions that apply to their course.

1. Identify the course and check its required qualification and minimum marks.
2. Use the relevant application route: the MPPEB portal for the state PG entrance process, MP DTE counselling for engineering, the chosen affiliated college for direct UG applications, or the university portal at vu.ac.in for teaching-department merit applications.
3. Take the entrance examination where the course requires one. For merit-based UG courses, selection uses Class 12 marks.
4. Join the applicable counselling or merit-selection process. PG seat allotment follows entrance rank and Madhya Pradesh reservation rules.

Entrance Tests and Selection Routes

The main course groups use the following examinations and selection authorities.

PG Admission: MA, M.Sc, MBA and MCA

MPPEB conducts MPPPET for the main postgraduate admission route. Students with a qualifying rank take part in centralised Madhya Pradesh counselling, through which seats at Vikram University and its affiliated colleges are allotted.

• A relevant undergraduate degree in the corresponding subject is required, with at least 50% marks. The minimum for SC/ST students is 45%.
• Applicants register through MPPEB before taking the state PG entrance examination.
• Entrance rank and the state government’s category reservation rules determine seat allotment.
• MA applicants in Vedic Studies, Jyotirvigyan and Yoga can also seek direct university admission based on merit.

UG Admission: BA, B.Sc, BCA and B.Com

Class 12 results determine selection for these undergraduate courses at affiliated colleges, so students do not take an entrance test. Applications go directly to the preferred college. For courses within the university’s own teaching departments, students can submit merit-based applications through vu.ac.in.

Engineering Admission

Students seeking BE admission need Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with a minimum aggregate of 45%. MP DTE runs counselling using JEE Main scores or the MP state CET, also called DVET. The university’s engineering departments fall under its technical faculty.

Integrated BA + LLB Admission

Students from any Class 12 stream can apply for the 5-year integrated BA + LLB at the Law Faculty. Selection uses CLAT, the Common Law Admission Test, or the university’s law entrance examination. Approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI), the course combines arts and law graduation within five years.

Ph.D. Admission

The university holds Ph.D. admissions twice a year. Applicants need a master’s degree with at least 55% marks, or 50% for SC/ST applicants. Those qualified in UGC-NET or GATE do not have to take the university entrance test. Research choices extend from modern science, management and law to Jyotirvigyan, Sanskrit and Vedic Studies.

Vikram University Placements and Career Outcomes

Employment support depends on the course and, for affiliated institutions, the college’s own placement work. Vikram University does not have a central campus placement system on the scale of specialist engineering or management institutes.

BE students at affiliated engineering colleges attend recruitment drives arranged by their colleges. Graduates from the university’s MBA department find private-sector work in Indore, Bhopal and other Madhya Pradesh cities. Law graduates can enter legal practice, prepare for judicial services or study for an LLM at National Law Universities (NLUs) and other law schools.

Religious and heritage tourism is growing in Ujjain. This creates further opportunities in tourism administration, heritage management and cultural programmes, especially for graduates who have studied the university’s heritage-related subjects.

Vikram University Rankings

NIRF participation takes place in the University category. Separately, the university’s NAAC B++ accreditation assesses areas such as teaching, institutional management and infrastructure.

The 101-150 placement puts Vikram University among India’s middle-ranking state universities. Its accreditation is B++, below A and A+, leaving scope to improve research output and infrastructure relative to leading state universities. NIRF gives considerable weight to research publications and industry links, so the university’s traditional Indian knowledge strengths are not fully reflected in those measures.

Vikram University Campus and Infrastructure

Teaching departments for arts, science, law and pharmacy share the 330-acre riverside campus with administrative buildings, a central library and sports grounds. The Shipra river runs beside the university in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The Mahakaleshwar Temple complex lies within 5 km, placing the campus close to a major landmark in this historic city.

Accommodation is available in separate hostels for men and women. Science and pharmacy students use functioning laboratories that undergo regular audits, with infrastructure also covered by the university’s NAAC B++ assessment. Alongside modern academic resources, the central library has a large collection of Sanskrit texts and traditional manuscripts, supporting both classical and contemporary study.

Students can reach Ujjain by road from Indore, 55 km away, or by rail through Ujjain Junction on the Ratlam to Bhopal main line. The city forms part of Madhya Pradesh’s cultural and pilgrimage circuit. Indore is the nearest metropolitan employment centre.

Vikram University Scholarships

Students can seek support through Madhya Pradesh and central government schemes that cover government and government-aided universities in the state. University merit awards and research fellowships provide other forms of assistance.

Applications for MP state scholarships go through the MP Scholarship Portal at scholarshipportal.mp.nic.in. Central scheme applications use the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. Before each scheme’s annual deadline, students must check that their enrolment information and fee receipts are updated on the relevant portal.

Vikram University Compared with DAVV and Jiwaji University

Students seeking UG and PG seats in Madhya Pradesh often consider Vikram University in Ujjain, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore, and Jiwaji University in Gwalior. These three major state universities follow state government and UGC rules and use MPPPET for postgraduate admissions.

Classical subjects give Vikram University a distinct place among these options, with programmes unavailable at DAVV or Jiwaji. It is a leading Madhya Pradesh choice for students interested in traditional Indian knowledge, Vedic Studies or heritage management.

For engineering and management employment, DAVV benefits from Indore’s position as the state’s commercial capital and the Simrol technology corridor. Jiwaji has the largest campus of the three, while its affiliation area includes strong medical and law colleges.
