PhD Mathematics at Stanford University is a 5-year full time program. Students engage in coursework and seminars for Qualifying Examinations in the 1st year of the program. These exams test the knowledge of students in algebra and real analysis. Students must require a dissertation advisor and apply for Candidacy in the 2nd year of the program. Students will attend their Area Examination during the 3rd year.
