• The new IELTS requirements for Canada's Student Direct Stream (SDS) are set to change from August 10, 2023, as announced by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Under the revised requirements:
• Test takers applying through the SDS program will now be required to achieve an overall band score of 6.0 in the IELTS exam.
• The individual score requirement of 6.0 bands in each section (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) will be removed. Instead, the focus will be on achieving the overall band score of 6.0.
• This adjustment to the IELTS score requirements is aimed at placing greater emphasis on the comprehensive language abilities of test takers. By removing the individual section scores, the intention is to provide international students with improved opportunities to pursue their studies in Canada.
