The student will be admitted to the Ph.D. program through the Ph.D. entrance test (PET) at the university level. PET shall be a qualifying examination with qualifying marks of 50%. The syllabus of PET shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject-specific. PET shall be conducted at D Y PATIL UNIVERSITY, Nerul, Navi Mumbai. The candidates who qualify for the PET will proceed to interview. The candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before a duly constituted departmental research committee. The interview shall consider whether the candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research, whether the research work can be suitably undertaken at the institution or college, the proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.

As per UGC guidelines, the minimum and maximum duration for completion of a Ph.D. program are as follows:

• Minimum duration: 3 years for full-time candidates and 4 years for part-time candidates.
• Maximum duration: 6 years for full-time candidates and 7 years for part-time candidates. Extensions beyond the maximum period may be granted under certain exceptional circumstances, subject to university regulations.
