SVKM’s NMIMS has hosted a Y20 talk featuring Ms. Surabhi Hodigere and the topic for the talk was ‘Shared Future: Youth in Democracy & Governance’. The talk was held in association with INDGenius and Y20India.

Ms. Surabhi Hodigere, who was the guest speaker at this session, is a public policy specialist on technology and is one of the top research fellows at the Aapti Institute in Bangalore. Ms. Hodigere possesses a bachelor’s degree in Economics (Honours) from Christ University and a master’s in public policy from the widely acclaimed Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. She is known as an advocate for responsible usage of technology in public administration to deliver public services. She has received the noteworthy LAMP Fellowship and has experience working as a civic-technology entrepreneur.

INDGenius is a platform whose purpose is to act as a student network offering holistic growth opportunities coupled with development orientation. It was established by professors, alumni, and students from various premier institutions across India and it caters to young academicians, youth, and scholars across private universities, boarding schools and institutes.

On the other hand, Y20 is an official platform of engagement from G20 and consists of changemakers and young leaders from the G20 countries congregating together. The objective of Y20 as a platform is to foster dialogue and knowledge sharing among participants to come up with solutions for challenges faced by current generation while leaving a positive impression on the world. The top youth forums jointly hosted this session as part of their ‘Project-I Leads’ and to put a global perspective on India’s G20 Leadership.

Ms. Surabhi, at this captivating Y20 session, spoke on several topics ranging from her experiences in politics to her desire to serve in her country that led her to leave United States of America. She further spoke about G20 under India’s leadership and the massive success that was the G20 summit held earlier this year in New Delhi. The guest also has an engagement with the young attendees where she stressed on the importance of reading and made an appeal to take charge in bringing social change as she talked at length about the importance of social entrepreneurship.

The Y20 talk held at NMIMS Bangalore helped students to broaden their horizons as it acted as an exclusive opportunity for exploration of new ideas & perspectives along with establishing connections with professionals. It was an enlightening experience for eager students.

As an expression of her thoughts, Ms. Surabhi Hodigere, during the session, said, “To bring about social change, the youth of today will have to play a transformative role and take important responsibilities in governance and drive public policy.”
