Student Story: Singrai Hansda, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, Bhubaneswar, Orissa

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences is located in Bhubaneswar, Orissa. It is a Deemed University, which was established in the year of 1993. The objective of this article is to introduce the world to the commendable story of Singrai Hansda (a tribal boy, who was born in Bagjata village in East Singhbhum District of Jharkhand) who chose KISS to give wings to her dream of becoming a world-class swimmer. He was admitted to KISS in class 1 in the year of 2016-17.

Singrai is a genius in swimming who cherishes innumerable dreams and is fully dedicated and focused towards his goals. While he swims, he resembles a fish, due to this his classmates at KISS call him a Human Fish.

On querying him about his decision of joining Kalinga Institute, Singrai said that KISS Bhubaneswar is an exceptional and cutting-edge institute, where he gets all the required guidance and support from expert trainers and swimming coaches along with receiving the best quality education.

The uniqueness of Kalinga Institute in comparison to others is that education remains the driving force and everything (from taking admission, staying up to passing out and becoming independent) is taken care of without charging any fee.

Although Singrai is very talented, disciplined and truly dedicated towards his studies, his affection for swimming and ambition of becoming a top-class swimmer is what kept the flame continuously burning inside. As a result, he marched ahead in chasing his dreams through hard work and didn't leave any stone unturned, with the support of Kalinga Institute, which is also famous for grooming budding sports talents with its State of Art Sports infrastructure.

Singrai is always grateful for the support of his teachers, and especially indebted to his mentor and institute founder Dr. Achyuta Samantha who provides him with all kinds of essential training under the ambiance of the best swimming coaches.

His efforts are well recognized at the state and national levels. And he has received many awards including a gold medal, a bronze medal and 3 medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze) at State Swimming Meet (Kalinga Stadium) in 3rd standard. While in class 4, his achievements include 1 Bronze medal at Kahateswar Pandey Swimming Competition and 4 gold medals at State Meet Tournament.

Singrai, a natural swimmer in the ponds to hand tank, is truly achieving new heights and getting nearer day by day towards his dream of becoming a top-class swimmer to earn glory for his state and country.
