MY HONEST REVIEW OF 6 MONTHS AT IITM
Likes
- There are good quality labs in every departement. Also, the roads are in the best condition
- There is a separate building called CFI for clubs and competition teams. Students in these teams participate in design competitions all over the world
Dislikes
- I do not like the teaching methodology of a few faculties
- There are a huge number of events happening at the same time, so it is difficult to manage them.
Remarks :
IITM is the NIRF number one ranked college in India. It is know for its exceptional academic reputation, world-class faculty and research labs and facilities. IITM students are placed in top companies and the average LPA received by outgoing students in placements is very high. Bad aspects, if any is there are so many activities and events that will be going on at the same time and it will be difficult to manage these activities and acdemics. To get into any IIT, we need to write JEE Mains and also qualify in JEE Advanced and your rank and category decides your course. For JEE Preparation, I went to FIITJEE coaching since 8th standard.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose Electrical Engineering because of its scope in the future and also because of my interest in Electronics. All faculties in IITM are Ph.D. scholars and almost all teachers teach the concepts well. There is no fixed exam pattern for every subject, but a general pattern is there will be 2 written quizzes (For 20 % weightage) and at the end of a Semester, there will be an Endsem (60 % Weightage), but the pattern may change with professor and course and subject.
Internships Opportunities :
I have not applied for any internships as of now. But there are opportunities to work as interns in first year in some small startups. There is a 2 month internship opportunity during the summer holidays of 3rd year.
Placement Experience :
For placements, you need to have a good CGPA and develop many skills in your domain of interest. Many famous core and non-core companies come to IITM for placements. I am in first year, so I don't know much about placements, but almost all students get placed with a good salary.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The yearly fees comes to about 3.2 lakhs The tuition fees is Rs. 2,00,000 and the Hostel fees is Rs. 40,000 , the mess fees is Rs. 34000 and there are other miscellaneous fees. Also, there is a one time admission fees of Rs. 21000. The economically weaker students have very less fees to pay. There is a 67% fees reduction for college students whose family income is less than 4.5 LPA and whose CGPA is greater than 5.0. There are also mess and pocket allowance for SC/ST students. All the information is available in the IITM Scholarships website.
Campus Life :
There are two fests, Saarang(Cultural fest) and Shaastra(Technical Fest), both of which happen in January. A semester is for 4 months(Odd sem - Aug to Nov and Even sem - Jan - May) and these fests happen during the vacation time, so some students stay back to organize these fests. The library at IITM has 5 floors, and almost all educational books and journals are available. Also, there are novels and story books in the library.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostels are separated from the mess. There are totally 12 messes in the institute and the students can choose their mess every month. The mess food is of good quality and taste. Also, there are different messes for North and South Inidan, Veg and Non-Veg menus. Additionally, there are extras provided in mess which can be paid and brought. Apart from messes, there are two food courts in the college and two food trucks. The hostel registration process is smooth. All first year students are in one hostel. From the second year, the hostel allotment changes, with different department students getting different hostels. But since the hostels are open to the outdoors, there are a lot of monkeys which causes trouble to the residents of the hostel.

Placement Experience :
Placements are good like when you rech the 4th semester you will be told to register the Placement portal and you will be charged 5000 to register in that Placement portal after that people from good companies or professional Placement trainers will come and train you give you classes the classes will be there until 5th semester end. After that many Placement offers will come to you in your given emails and you will be able to apply in those companies if you are eligible they will contact you. Internship offers the staffs itself give all the active Internship details in the college whatsapp group it will be created once your classes begin.
ITS VALUE FOR MONEY
Placement Experience :
The eligibilty varies it's better to no arrears during placements average package could 3.5LPA Around 60 percent is placed I got placed. IN our college there are various companies that come for placemrnt like Capegimini, hcl, wipro, airtel, Ericcson.
Good college and value for money
Placement Experience :
Around 70% of the students from this course got placed, which is kinda decent I think. The highest package went up to 21 LPA and the lowest was around 5 LPA. Some of the main companies that came for recruitment were TCS, Zoho and Wipro. For internships also, students got chances in companies like Zoho, Amazon and Wipro. Most of the roles offered were related to HR, not much technical roles from what I heard.

The faculty of this college is good there are strick and the curriculum are good and every one in the college will face 2 test before the main exam internal test one and internal test 2 are the two test and practical will be taken place a side

The fee structure in the college is high and for different course the fee is different for ELECTRONIC AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING I am paying ?90000 and for bus ? 16000 and someone in my class is paying ?125000 so not everyone is paying the same amount in the college

College providers many placement to the students if you know arrears we should we have eligible to the placement and highest packages 21 lakh per annum and the average packages 9.5 lakhs per annum the minimum package is 4 lakhs per annum
