Underrated college
Likes
- People are open minded. No unnecessary strict rules or moral policing.
- Since it is a small college, we all know each other and has a sense of community.
Dislikes
- Hostel facilities can be improved. There are a lot of stray dogs.
- Although there is a volleyball court, it'd be better if the grass around it was properly cut and the net around the court should be higher so that the ball shouldn't go to feed grass growing area
Remarks :
I got admission through KEAM exam. I wrote it specifically for this course. The campus is quite large considering the number of students. The atmosphere is good. The teachers are pretty friendly and you'll have a lot of freedom. Hostel closes at 9:30 pm, so you should have to get in before that. Since there's only around 250 students studying, the funding is not as high as other colleges in Kerala like the ones under KTU. Admission process is fairly straightforward. Once you're alloted, come to the college with necessary documents and the technical process will be over soon. There'll be student help desks to guide you. On the day of admission, you'll have to pay the fees and hostel rooms will be alloted. First year girls can't get hostel facilities as there are a higher number of girls and there isn't enough facilities. Lot of PGs are available though. Boys will have hostel from the first year itself. There is no ragging issues as the authorities are really strict about it.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Dairy technology is one of the emerging fields. People think that AI and computer skills are the future; which is true, but the field is saturated. Agriculture based courses have a high potential both in India and abroad. In fact, dairy technology have higher scope abroad. All the assistant professors are highly knowledgeable. There's going to be more hiring of APs in the coming months. Exams will be conducted on time. The university is strict on that. The syllabus is easier than other engineering disciplines. You'll pass every semester if you put in decent effort.
Placement Experience :
Nobody is jobless after this course. Placement from companies like Amul, Mother dairy etc. are happening. MNCs also come for recruitment. I don't know the exact amount of packages, but I heard from seniors that a 2019 batch student received 12+LPA offer from a foreign company. I plan to work in the industry after the course and climb my way up.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Per semester there is a registration fee. For the first sem, we paid around 16000rs for the registration. For second semester, it was around 7500. For third it is 10000. It will be around the same range for the coming semesters. During admission, we had to pay various other fees around 10000rs. There is no fee for the hostel. You'll need to pay an additional 10000rs as caution deposit for the college mess facility. It is mandatory if you're staying in the hostel. Mess fee will be around 4500rs per month. You'll also have to pay 200 rs monthly for unlimited 5G wifi available in the hostel and for cleaning(200 including both, not separate 200). E grants are available if your yearly income is low enough. SC and ST category students have to pay only very low amount.
Campus Life :
There is "paalvaaram" conducted every year on milk day. Many informational and entertaining programs are conducted for a week. Foodzone is also conducted yearly in the same manner. There is a college arts festival and university arts festival. Sports day is conducted, both at college and university level. University sports is usually conducted at mannuthy or pookode. There's other days like ethnic day, union inauguration day etc. Decent library is available with books related to academics and other topics. Newspapers and magazines are regularly issued.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel will be available for boys from the day of admission. Girls will be admitted to the hostel only at the end of second semester. This is because there are too many girls and hostel facilities are limited. There are a lot of PGs around the college. Men's hostel for the first year doesn't have the best infrastructure. There are some wiring issues as the building is quite old. Technicians fix the problems like broken tubes/bulbs or plug point not working ASAP though. There're a lot of mosquitoes. Food is from the veterinary mess which is in the same campus. But new VKIDFT mess will start soon on September 15th 2025. Food from the vet mess was good. New mess too hopefully be good.

Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose Computer Science and Engineering (AI & ML) because of my interest in technology, programming, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The curriculum follows KTU regulations and covers both theory and practical subjects. Most faculty members are qualified . Internal exams and semester exams are conducted on time. The difficulty level is moderate to a lil bit high and students who attend classes regularly can perform well.

I am studying four year fyugp course. So there is only one internal. And then there is sem exms at last. If u study well u could score good marks. Little difficulty
