- Campus Life is good for me as I have friends from different states and some international frienda too. They make my campus life fun and great.
- I love the number of sports here and coaches available for it. I learnt table tennis from scratch and got a gold medal. I love the sport opportunities given here.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure at Gitam University Hyderabad poses significant challenges for students. The campus design lacks practicality and aesthetic appeal, impacting the overall functionality and navigation experience. Unclean canteens raise concerns about hygiene and food safety, detracting from the overall well-being of students. The presence of stray dogs on campus not only creates safety risks but also contributes to an uncomfortable environment. Malfunctioning lifts force students to rely heavily on stairs, particularly inconvenient for accessing higher floors, compounded by the lack of proper signage within buildings, leading to confusion and frustration. Moreover, classrooms lack essential amenities and comfortable seating, while indoor sports facilities suffer from inadequate ventilation, resulting in discomfort during physical activities.
- The intense heat at the college, coupled with the lack of air-conditioned spaces, is particularly challenging for me as a North Indian, making it uncomfortable to study or relax. The small canteens without air conditioning exacerbate the discomfort, especially with their predominantly spicy food options, creating an unpleasant dining experience. Additionally, the absence of air conditioning in indoor sports facilities not only makes them stifling and hot but also contributes to unpleasant odors, making it difficult to enjoy physical activities. Despite the faculty's prestigious backgrounds from IITs, it's disheartening to encounter some who lack effective teaching skills and basic pedagogical knowledge, which hinders academic progress and creates frustration among students. Furthermore, the presence of dogs everywhere on campus is intimidating, especially for those with a fear of dogs like myself, leading to feelings of unease and anxiety.The overly priced food at the Gitam cafe is bad
Remarks :
I chose Gitam University Hyderabad because the course I opted for is very new & unique,& not all colleges offer it. It's considered one of the best colleges for my chosen course. I took the GAT exam for admission and was lucky to receive a scholarship after the exam. Preparing for the GAT exam wasn't easy, as it covered subjects from the 11th and 12th-grade syllabus. I turned to YouTube for preparation & scored well on the exam. The college provides many opportunities in various fields & diverse clubs to cater to different interests. The good library and a huge campus add fun. The provision of scholarships based on exams and financial need is highly good for students. There are some drawbacks. Not all faculty members are equally good, and there are some management issues.The lack of AC in all classrooms, despite the hot weather, is bad.The distance from Hyderabad, around 50 km away, is a challenge for both day scholars and hostellers, impacting accessibility and extracurricular activity.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Choosing the course Food Science and Technology was driven by its novelty & the growing demand in the market. The stability of the food industry, coupled with the increasing demand for processed and packaged food, made it a promising career choice. The faculties in my department are highly qualified, coming from IITs. While many ha great knowledge & teaching skills, there are some diff in teaching effectiveness among them. However, overall, they provide an ok foundation for the subject matter. There are two semesters in a year, with each semester having two or three mid-term exams. These mid-terms, quizzes & assignments, contribute to the internal assessment, which varies in weightage depending on the faculty. The end-semester exams, both mid-terms and finals, are closely monitored by invigilators. Course fees are reasonable,but the hostel fees are considerably high, making it financially challenging for some students. I was lucky to receive a 15% scholarship based on my performance in the GAT.
Internships Opportunities :
As I am a first-year student,we don't have internships. However, we have a lot of internship options available. We have paid internships too which is not recommended by the faculties. As it is risky and does not assure certificates.
Placement Experience :
As I am a first year, I don't know much about the placements and job opportunities. The eligibility criteria for placements in pretty common like other universities, having more than 8 CGPA and attendance should be more than 75%. The recent recruiter who visited Gitam University is Amul and I have no idea about the offers made. All of the students got placed be it in high-paying jobs or low. My plans after getting my degree are to get a campus selection and then work for 2-3 years for work experience if it's a good job and I like it, I will work for more years and then I will pursue a masters abroad in dietician and nutrition.
Campus Life :
Life at the campus of Gitam University Hyderabad has a varied experience. The academic atmosphere is generally ok but the social scene lacks vibrancy, and students seem disinterested in extracurricular engagements. Hostels are available in five blocks. The hefty fees make it unaffordable for some students, despite the friendly wardens. Hygiene standards in washrooms often fall short, despite efforts by staff. The annual fest, PRAMANA, is held every February featuring international, national, & local artists across three days, injecting excitement into campus life. The library is an extensive collection of books and journals. Still, the absence of AC hampers extended study sessions, detracting from its potential. Classroom amenities vary, with some lacking AC, which can be uncomfortable given the scorching Hyderabad climate. Despite this, the campus offers a variety of sports and extracurricular activities, fostering a sense of community and enjoyment among students.

Students who maintain a good academic record and possess strong technical and communication skills have better chances of getting placed. Generally, students with no active backlogs and a minimum academic percentage as specified by the recruiting company are eligible to participate in campus placements. A few recruiters visit the college for hiring, mainly for entry-level roles in software, IT support, and core engineering domains. However, the number of offers is limited, and only around 40–50% of students secure campus placements. The average salary package offered ranges from ?3–4 LPA, while the highest package varies depending on the company and the student's performance. The college also encourages students to apply for paid internships, which help them gain practical industry experience and improve their technical skills

I am still in my second year, so I havent sat for placements yet. But the college starts preparing us early with coding practice, projects, aptitude training, resume building sessions, and mock interviews. FRom interacting with seniors, I have heard that students who stay consistent with their skills get good opportunities

From the early semesters we are encouraged to build projects, improve our coding skills, and create a strong resume. That gives us enough time to prepare instead of rushing later. The college also shares internship opportunities and guides students through the application process. There are resume reviews, mock interviews, and career sessions that help us understand what companies expect. I feel the support is there throughout the journey, the more effort you put in, the more you can benefit from these opportunities.

From what I have experienced the college starts preparing us for placements much earlier than I expected. We regularly have coding practice, project work, resume reviews, aptitude sessions and mock interviews, so you are improving little by little instead of waiting for the final year. The college also shares internship and job opportunities with students. I feel the support is definitely there but your results depend on how much effort you put into building your skills.

As a current student I haven't reached the final placement season yet but the college has already started preparing us. We get regular updates about internship opportunities, and many students apply from the early semester itself. Along with that there are sessions on resume writing, aptitude, communication skills and interview preparation. The college also encourages us to build projects and improve our technical skills, which helps while applying for internships. I feel these small efforts throughout the course will make a big difference when placements begun.
