Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) is a state health sciences affiliating university set up by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 1986. It is based in Vijayawada, Krishna District, and works as the main affiliating and regulatory university for health sciences education in Andhra Pradesh. NTRUHS is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), and its courses are approved by bodies such as the National Medical Commission (NMC), Dental Council of India (DCI), Indian Nursing Council (INC), Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), and Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH).
NTRUHS is not listed in the NIRF 2025 rankings. The university has more than 184 affiliated colleges across Andhra Pradesh. These colleges cover modern medicine, dental surgery, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani, nursing, physiotherapy, and allied health sciences.
The university headquarters is in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Its affiliated colleges include long-running government medical colleges in Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Kurnool, and Anantapur, along with private colleges in cities such as Guntur, Nellore, and Tirupati.
For a government quota seat in NTRUHS-affiliated colleges, the full MBBS fee is INR 93,100 for 5.5 years. The total BDS government quota fee is INR 55,600. BAMS and BHMS cost INR 1,43,350 in total. Admission is based only on entrance exams such as NEET UG, NEET PG, and AP EAMCET, depending on the course.
NTRUHS admissions for the 2026-27 session are linked to national and state-level entrance exams. MBBS and BDS seats come under AP NEET UG Counselling. NEET PG is used for PG medical and dental seats, while AP EAMCET-based counselling is followed for nursing and allied health science courses.

NTRUHS manages admission rules and counselling coordination for its affiliated colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Students do not take admission to a central teaching campus of the university. The process depends on the course group and the entrance exam attached to it.

AP NEET counselling is held in Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round. For General Category government quota MBBS seats in leading Andhra Pradesh government colleges, NEET UG closing ranks usually fall between 5,000 and 30,000. Less preferred government colleges may close at higher ranks.
BDS admission also uses NEET UG scores and AP NEET counselling. The counselling is held separately from MBBS. Students must pass 10+2 with PCB and at least 50% aggregate. BDS counselling normally takes place after MBBS rounds and uses the same NEET UG score.
NTRUHS-affiliated colleges mainly offer medical and health sciences courses, so they do not follow the usual campus placement model. Students move into jobs through internships, licensing routes, government recruitment, hospital hiring, postgraduate entrance exams, and independent practice.
| Career Stage / Pathway | Typical Compensation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MBBS Internship | INR 15,000 to INR 20,000 per month stipend | Compulsory 1-year rotating internship at an affiliated teaching hospital |
| AP Government Medical Officer | INR 55,000 to INR 70,000 per month | Level 10 pay matrix entry for government MBBS recruits through AP Health Services |
| Private Hospital / Clinic | INR 40,000 to INR 80,000 per month | Depends on city, hospital type, and specialisation |
| NEET PG to MD/MS Resident | Stipend of INR 55,000 to INR 75,000 per month | Many MBBS graduates prepare for NEET PG to enter a specialisation |
| Post MD/MS Government Specialist | INR 90,000 to INR 1,20,000 per month | Specialist cadre under AP Health Services |
| B.Sc Nursing / Allied Health | INR 18,000 to INR 35,000 per month | Government ANM/Staff Nurse posts and private hospitals in Andhra Pradesh |
After MBBS, many students from NTRUHS-affiliated government medical colleges aim for NEET PG and then enter MD or MS courses. Government service is also a major route because Andhra Pradesh has a large public health system. BPT and Allied Health graduates work in government hospitals, private multi-specialty hospitals, and rehabilitation centres.
NTRUHS has its administrative headquarters in Vijayawada, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh. The campus is used for university work such as regulation, examinations, admission coordination, and research administration. Since it is an affiliating university, it does not run one central teaching campus for all students.
Government medical colleges affiliated with NTRUHS include Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam, Rangaraya Medical College in Kakinada, Government Medical College in Anantapur, and Kurnool Medical College in Kurnool. These colleges have attached teaching hospitals with 500 to 1,500+ beds, where MBBS, PG, and super-specialty students receive clinical training. Many government medical college campuses also provide separate hostels for male and female students.
Private affiliated colleges are located in Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, and other cities. Hostel facilities, campus size, and infrastructure differ by college. Students should check hostel availability and facilities with the allotted college during document verification.
Students studying in NTRUHS-affiliated colleges can apply for state and central scholarship schemes if they meet the rules. The main financial support in Andhra Pradesh is the fee reimbursement system for SC, ST, BC, and EBC students.
| Scheme | Eligibility | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Vidya Deevena (AP Fee Reimbursement) | SC/ST/BC/EBC students from families with annual income below INR 2.5 Lakhs and admitted under government quota seats | Full tuition fee reimbursement for government quota seats |
| AP Fee Reimbursement (SC/ST) | SC/ST category students with family income below the state threshold | Full tuition and special fee reimbursement for government quota MBBS, BDS, and nursing seats |
| AP Fee Reimbursement (BC/EBC) | BC/EBC category students with annual family income below INR 1 Lakh | Partial to full tuition reimbursement as per income slab |
| National Scholarship Portal (PM-USP) | Minority community students with 50% in the qualifying exam and family income below INR 2 Lakhs | INR 20,000 to INR 50,000 per annum based on course level |
AP fee reimbursement and Vidya Deevena applications are submitted through the AP ePass portal within the first month of the academic year. After verification, the benefit is sent directly to the institution. Students must check the income certificate and caste certificate requirements during admission.
Students planning health sciences courses in South India often compare state health sciences universities by college network, fee rules, and examination system. NTRUHS in Andhra Pradesh, KNRUHS in Telangana, and RGUHS in Karnataka perform similar affiliating and regulatory roles in their states.
| Parameter | NTRUHS | KNRUHS | RGUHS |
|---|---|---|---|
| State | Andhra Pradesh | Telangana | Karnataka |
| Established | 1986 | 2018 | 1996 |

| MBBS Govt Quota Fees | INR 93,100 total | As per TS AFRC norms | As per Karnataka fee norms |
RGUHS has the biggest affiliated college network among the three, so Karnataka students get a wider list of institutions. NTRUHS is older than the two AP-Telangana health sciences universities and has a more established examination and regulation system. KNRUHS was formed after the 2014 bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and is still building its affiliated college base. All three universities use NEET-based centralised admission with counselling schedules set by their respective states.
Ques. What role does NTRUHS play in health sciences admissions?

Read Full ReviewI did not choose this college specifically but alloted through aaccc counselling. I wanted to become a doctor. But Now I really love this course as it has provided me great knowledge about ayurveda and it's so many benefits in detail. Would love to spread it to everyone and attain the respect ayurveda deserves. Considered due to low fees and quality of education as it is an 100 year old ayurvedic college with great reputation. Also the fact of fresh air attracted me to it. Faculty is a bit less in number but each one of them is highly educated. All have MD and max have PdD# from reputed colleges. Immense knowledge and experience in everyone but a few can have problem in english communication.
As it's medical field, there is no Placement. Either work for jobs in any hospital Become a Medical Officer after giving state exams and Interview Open your own clinic It's upto the individual to use their skills and earn. They can earn 30k to 10L per month depending upon their skills
Read Full ReviewThe curriculum is according to NMC guidelines. There is no delay in it. Exams are on time and faculties are experienced. These things give the college one of the best choices for MBBS courses and every year there are 240 students.
As it is a medical college there is nothing like placement. In the full MBBS course, the last 1 year is an internship in SVRGG hospital. In Andhra Pradesh, the stipend is around 23000 per month for interns. But may increase in a few years.
Read Full ReviewTotal five half year course including an internship of one year and we have good accommodation and hostel facilities and as it is a college we have a good stipend for internship and it's good to be part of the College.
As it is medical education there are good chances in medical hospitals, etc with more private jobs around the world and very lesser chances of government Ayurvedic jobs and at the initial stage we have a good stipend for 1 year.
Read Full ReviewI choose this course because I like to serve to the public and save lives from the childhood. And the faculty in my college all are MS or MD graduates with 15 to 20 years of experience in the profession . The teaching method in my college is always bimodal the professor interacts with each and every student to let their opinions out about the topic . We mostly learn difficult subjects in 3d way so that we remember better. After the theory class we will be having a practical class about the topic , which will make us understand better about the concept. We have group discussions, seminars every weekly which will enhance the understanding about topic and a way to share the knowledge. Term exams will be once in every three months the difficulty level will be medium, any student if attended classes regularly can answer 60% of questions. As mine is a government college fee per year would be 15,000 rupees . It doesn't cost much to study mbbs in a government sector. I do not have scholarship .
As we know medical profession is highly demandable , the job opportunities are good. After completing 4 years of study we were supposed to do internship for 1 year , we get the stiphen of 25000 monthly. After the graduation we have to write the NEET PG again to have a better future and specialise in your dream branch. With out pg only mbbs degree has no value these days . Average salary for a post graduate in the top department would be 50,000 for month in the first year. As the experience increases , salary will also increases. I think only 60% of students are doing pg after mbbs because of various reasons . My plan after mbbs is to give a try to neet pg and get selected in my dream branch (as pg in general medicine) . For that we have to work hard as the competition in this field is crazy , atleast 1000 students are competing for 1 pg seat.
