The UG admission process includes the 3-year FYUGP, the 5-year FYIMP and the integrated 5-year BA LLB. Available programmes include BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, BSW and BTTM. These courses are allotted through UG CAP.
Students who have passed Kerala HSE or VHSE can apply. Qualifications from other recognised boards are accepted as well.
| Programme | Eligibility | Selection Basis |
|---|---|---|
| BA / B.Com / BBA / BSW / BTTM | Pass in 10+2 from a recognised board in any stream | Class 12 merit through CAP |
| B.Sc (Science programmes) | Pass in 10+2 with the relevant science subjects | |
| BCA | Pass in 10+2 with Mathematics | |
| BA LLB (5-Year Integrated) | Pass in 10+2 in any stream with at least 45% aggregate for General candidates | |
| FYIMP (5-Year Integrated Masters) | Pass in 10+2 with the stream required for the chosen programme | Class 12 merit through CAP for university departments |
Class 12 scores are used to prepare the UG merit list. CAP then assigns a course and college according to each applicant's rank, reservation category and ordered preferences.
UG admission normally follows the same sequence each year, beginning with registration and a trial result before the regular allotment rounds.
Note: Applicants should enter as many suitable preferences as possible. CAP checks the list in order and offers the best available choice. Listing fewer options can reduce the possibility of receiving a preferred allotment.
Programmes available through the PG admission process include MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MCA, MSW, MCJ and MTTM. Most applicants must take Kannur University's subject-specific PG entrance test and complete a separate registration on the PG portal.
A bachelor's degree in the relevant field from a recognised university is the basic requirement. Students waiting for their final graduation results may submit a provisional application.
| Programme | Eligibility | Selection Basis |
|---|---|---|
| MA (Arts and Social Sciences) | Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject | PG entrance test |
| M.Sc (Science) | B.Sc in the related science subject | |
| M.Com | B.Com or an equivalent qualification | |
| MCA | Bachelor's degree that included Mathematics or Computer Science | |
| MSW / MCJ / MTTM | Bachelor's degree in a relevant field | |
| M.Ed | B.Ed from a recognised university in the applicable specialisation | Direct departmental admission outside CAP |
| LLB (3-Year) at University Departments | Bachelor's degree in any stream with at least 45% for General candidates | Merit-based allotment |
For most PG courses, allotment is based on rank in the university entrance test and the programme and college choices entered by the applicant.
MBA selection uses a valid KMAT Kerala, CAT or CMAT score. Applicants who reach the shortlist must take part in a Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The entrance score and performance in both assessment stages are combined for the final merit list.
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree with the required minimum aggregate. Those completing the final year of graduation are allowed to apply provisionally.
Note: KMAT Kerala takes place twice a year. A student who appears in both sessions can submit the higher score for the Kannur University MBA application.
B.Ed is a 2-year programme available through government, aided and self-financing teacher education colleges affiliated with Kannur University. Qualifying degree marks determine admission, and applicants do not sit for a separate entrance test.
A candidate needs a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university. The subject studied at UG level must correspond to the selected B.Ed specialisation.
The academic session starts according to the university's academic calendar.
UG and PG students can seek financial support through central and Kerala government schemes. Scholars enrolled in research programmes may also apply for fellowships offered by UGC, DST and other national organisations.
Ques. How are applicants selected for different courses at Kannur University?
Ans. Applications are handled through the online CAP portal at admissions.kannuruniversity.ac.in. Class 12 merit decides UG allotment, while most PG courses use Kannur University's entrance test. MBA selection combines a KMAT Kerala, CAT or CMAT score with a Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
Ques. Do UG applicants need to take an entrance test?
Ans. No. UG ranks are prepared from Class 12 marks. CAP uses that rank and the preferences entered by each student to allot a course and college.
Ques. Which test scores can be used for the Kannur University MBA?
Ans. Applicants may provide a valid KMAT Kerala, CAT or CMAT score. Shortlisted students must also complete a Group Discussion and Personal Interview, and performance across these stages decides the final merit position.
Ques. Who can apply for a Kannur University PG programme?
Ans. A recognised bachelor's degree in the relevant subject is required. Final-year students may apply on a provisional basis. For most PG programmes, the university's own entrance examination determines admission.
Ques. What is the maximum number of choices allowed in CAP?
Ans. CAP accepts up to 20 course-college combinations from each applicant. Students can change these choices during the defect correction period following the trial allotment. Entering more suitable options can improve the chance of receiving a preferred seat.
Ques. How much does the admission application cost?
Ans. For UG registration, General applicants pay INR 500 and SC/ST applicants pay INR 300. The PG charge is INR 600 for General applicants and INR 300 for SC, ST and PwBD applicants. Payment is completed online through SBI ePay on the admission portal.
Ques. Can a student obtain a management quota or walk-in seat?
Ans. No. Kannur University does not offer management quota admission. Merit-based centralised CAP allotment is compulsory, and students cannot secure admission outside the official portal procedure.
Ques. On what basis are B.Ed seats allotted?
Ans. Applicants need a recognised bachelor's degree in a subject related to their chosen specialisation. The qualifying degree percentage forms the merit rank, and there is no separate B.Ed entrance examination.
Ques. Which financial aid schemes can Kannur University students use?
Ans. Kerala's e-Grantz scheme supports eligible SC, ST, OBC and EWS students, while central merit schemes are available through the National Scholarship Portal. INSPIRE supports qualifying science students at UG and PG levels. Research scholars may seek UGC-CSIR NET/JRF, MANF and other research fellowships.
Ques. In which months does the usual admission schedule begin?
Ans. PG registration generally starts in April, followed by UG registration in May. Allotments normally finish during June and July, and classes commonly start in the first week of July.

Admission to Kannur university campus requires a separate entrance test, through which approximately 16-18 students are selected under the general category and around 10 students from the reserved category . Additionally, there are different stages of allotment. Selected students must also attend an interview , which is relatively easy one.
