TISS Admission Dates 2027

For the 2027-28 session, TISS will use CAT 2026 scores for selected postgraduate programmes at the Mumbai campus. These include MA HRM and Labour Relations, MA Organisation Development, Change and Leadership, Master of Hospital Administration, and M.Sc Analytics.

TISS Courses and Fees

TISS offers more than 68 programmes from diploma to doctoral level. Its main subject areas include social work, human resource management, education, media, health, development studies, law, and data analytics. Government-aided courses usually cost below INR 3 Lakhs for two years, while ODCL and Analytics have higher professional course fees.

Working professionals can also apply for Executive Post Graduate Diploma courses. The Executive PGD in HRM costs INR 4.34 Lakhs, while the Executive PGD in Organisation Development and Change costs INR 6.02 Lakhs.

TISS Admission Process

PG Programmes

TISS admits students to postgraduate courses through different national and institute-level routes, depending on the programme. For 2027-28, CAT 2026 scores will be used for MA HRM and Labour Relations, MA Organisation Development, Change and Leadership, Master of Hospital Administration, and M.Sc Analytics. Other postgraduate courses follow the route notified by TISS, including CUET PG where applicable.

• Step 3: Fill the TISS application form for the selected programme and campus
• Step 4: Complete any further selection round, such as written test, online assessment, written ability test, or personal interview, if the programme requires it
• Step 5: Wait for the final merit list, which is prepared as per the selection rules for that course

Candidates can apply to programmes across the Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad, and Guwahati campuses in the same admission cycle, subject to the rules issued for that year.

MA HRM and Labour Relations

MA HRM and LR is one of the most competitive TISS programmes. Applicants need a graduation degree in any discipline with more than 50% marks from a recognised university. The selection process for shortlisted candidates includes further assessment at the Mumbai campus. The course admits 60 students in each batch.

MA Social Work

MA Social Work is available in eight specialisations: Community Organisation, Urban and Rural Community Development, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Labour Studies, Criminology, Disability Studies, Women-Centred Social Work, and Child Development. Each specialisation has its own intake, and selection is completed as per the admission route notified by TISS.

BSW and UG Programmes

For BSW and BS Analytics and Sustainability Studies, applicants need Class 12 from a recognised board with at least 50% marks. UG admission is through CUET UG or the TISS UG process as notified. B.Ed and B.Ed + M.Ed follow NCTE guidelines and use a separate TISS-administered admission process.

TISS Tuljapur, Hyderabad, and Guwahati Campuses

TISS campuses outside Mumbai are located at Tuljapur in Maharashtra, Hyderabad in Telangana, and Guwahati in Assam. These campuses offer selected MA Social Work specialisations and development programmes linked to regional contexts. Their fees follow the same government-aided subsidy pattern as the Mumbai campus.

TISS Placements and Career Outcomes

Placement results at TISS change from one programme to another. MA HRM and LR has strong corporate hiring in the management and social science space, while Social Work, Education, and Development Studies usually lead students towards NGOs, government roles, development organisations, and academic careers.

For the MA HRM and LR batch of 2024, the highest offer reached INR 49 LPA. The average package stood at INR 27 LPA, and the programme achieved 100% campus placement. Summer placements for the 2024-26 batch reported a highest stipend of INR 4.5 Lakhs for two months and a mean stipend of INR 3.22 Lakhs for two months.

NIRF 2024 data shows that the median annual salary across TISS PG programmes was INR 5.22 Lakhs for 1-year PG courses and INR 6.50 Lakhs for 2-year PG courses. These median figures combine high-paying HRM and ODCL tracks with development-sector programmes that usually have lower starting salaries.

Recruiters for HRM and LR include Aditya Birla Group, Mahindra, Tata group, Deloitte, Hindustan Unilever, HDFC, Cognizant, Amazon India, and Accenture. Development sector recruiters include UNICEF, UNDP, Aga Khan Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and government line ministries.

TISS Rankings

TISS has held the No. 1 rank in Social Work in India Today rankings for 2023, 2024, and 2025, and in Outlook rankings for 2022, 2023, and 2024. In the NIRF University Ranking 2025, TISS is placed at Rank 72.

TISS Scholarships

TISS offers financial support through centrally administered government scholarships for SC, ST, OBC, and EWS students. It also provides merit-cum-means fellowships for students who have strong academic records and need financial help.

Since many TISS courses cost only INR 2 to INR 3 Lakhs for two years, scholarships mainly help economically weaker students manage living costs at the Mumbai campus.

TISS Campus and Infrastructure

The Mumbai campus is in Deonar, Chembur, in Mumbai's eastern suburbs. Students can reach it through Chembur station on the Harbour Line, BEST buses, and the Eastern Express Highway. The campus is residential and has separate hostel blocks for men and women.

Campus facilities include the P.N. Thakur Memorial Library, specialised research centres for disability studies, labour studies, gender studies, coastal management, and education technology, computer labs, a digital media studio, seminar halls, an auditorium, and sports facilities. Accommodation is available through six hostel blocks, along with mess, cafeteria, and laundry facilities.

The Tuljapur campus in Maharashtra focuses on rural and tribal area development. The Hyderabad campus works on development policy for the Deccan region, while the Guwahati campus offers development studies with a focus on Northeast India.

TISS vs XLRI Jamshedpur vs IRMA Anand

TISS, XLRI, and IRMA are often considered by students who want management education linked with people, organisations, and development. Each institution has its own focus area and attracts students looking beyond purely commercial management courses.

TISS offers a strong quality-to-cost value for HRM and Social Work students. XLRI has higher fees but is known for premium corporate placements in HRM and general management. IRMA is suited to students focused on rural development and social enterprise careers.
