The College represents academic excellence, advancement of abilities, skills, and character formation to empower students to dominate in their preferred field of subject. It is one of the premier academic establishments of West Bengal which intellectually inspires and ethically urges the youth to address the worldwide difficulties and challenges of the current millennium.

The College runs in two shifts. One shift is in the Morning i.e. Women's Section and the other shift is Day Section i.e. Coeducational. The offices of both the Day and Morning Sections are situated in the Golden Jubilee Building.

The College has accomplished the honor of being one of the biggest Government supported universities in the state of West Bengal with 22 departments, out of which 15 departments offer courses in Honors, 92 teaching faculty members including the part-time, full time and guest teachers, and 56 non-teaching staff including administrative and technical staff members and almost 3000 students.
