What Is the UP Board Class 12 Exam?

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) conducts the Intermediate examination, or Class 12 board exam. The board is based in Prayagraj. It was established in 1921 and held its first examination in 1923. Intermediate is the examination after the 10+2 stage; High School is Class 10.

UPMSP issues the syllabus, model papers, exam schedule and results. Your school handles the exam application and the records linked to it. Science, Commerce, Humanities, Agriculture and vocational subjects do not all have the same paper structure, so the subject name on your registration matters more than a general stream label.

UP Board Class 12 Exam Dates 2027

UPMSP released the timetable on 12 October 2026. The schedule below covers selected general and Commerce subjects for Class 12. Agriculture and vocational trade papers have their own entries in the combined timetable.

Mathematics and Biology are both on 12 February in the afternoon. If both appear in your examination record, raise the clash with your school immediately rather than assuming a second sitting is available.

The morning session runs from 8:30 am to 11:45 am, and the afternoon session from 2 pm to 5:15 pm. This is the scheduled session window. The Maths syllabus, for example, specifies three hours for the written paper; follow the question-paper instructions for reading and writing time.

The board has issued one timetable with separate High School and Intermediate columns. Class 10 English or Mathematics dates are not the dates for Class 12. Match the Intermediate subject and shift when making your personal exam list.

UP Board Class 12 Registration and School Records

The extended deadline for uploading 2027 exam applications was 30 September 2026. Schools submitted the application details and examination-fee information through the board portal. The subsequent correction window was for already-uploaded records, not fresh registrations.

The 12 October notice asked schools to resolve roll-list problems, including missing photographs, missing fee challans or supporting records, and duplicate registrations. It kept 15 October 2026 as the deadline for submitting the photographic roll list and treasury record. This was not a reopening of the exam application.

If your name, photograph or subject entry is wrong, take the school record and supporting document to the principal. Ask which details were uploaded and what correction route is still available for your case. Do not submit a second registration to solve an error in the first one.

UP Board Class 12 Exam Pattern and Passing Marks

Physics and Chemistry specify a minimum of 23 marks in theory and 10 in practicals, making 33 marks. The two components matter separately. For example, 22 in theory and 20 in practicals adds up to 42, but the theory score is still below the stated minimum.

Do not apply a 70+30 split to every subject or assume that a high overall percentage clears a failed component. English has one 100-mark question paper. Mathematics also has a 100-mark written paper. Your result must be read against the rules for the subject concerned.

What Types of Questions Are Asked?

The mix changes with the subject. Chemistry includes six one-mark MCQs, eight two-mark parts, four three-mark parts, four four-mark parts and four five-mark parts, totalling 70. Its paper-setting plan also calls for at least 8 marks of numerical questions. English combines reading, writing, grammar and literature rather than following the Chemistry layout.

Use the subject model paper to practise the question lengths and internal choices. A single claim such as “all papers have 20 MCQs” does not describe the Intermediate examination accurately.

UP Board Class 12 Maths Syllabus and Weightage

Calculus carries 44 of the 100 marks. It includes continuity and differentiability, applications of derivatives, integrals, applications of integrals and differential equations. Vectors and Three-dimensional Geometry contribute another 18 marks, while Algebra contributes 15.

For Calculus, practise the complete method: choose the rule, show the substitution or intermediate step, and simplify the answer. In a definite integral, changing the variable also changes the limits. In differential equations, check the order, the required form and any supplied condition before solving.

These are unit allocations in the 2026-27 syllabus, not predictions based on how often a question appeared. A 44-mark Calculus unit does not mean one particular integration question is certain to return.

UP Board Class 12 Science Syllabus

Physics

Optics has the largest individual allocation at 13 marks. The first five units together carry 35 marks and the remaining four carry 35. Revise both numerical work and the diagrams or reasoning needed to explain the result; a correct final number alone does not show the method.

Chemistry

Solutions and Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids carry 8 marks each. The other units have 6 or 7 marks, so omitting several smaller units can leave a large part of the paper uncovered. For organic conversions, write the reagent and reaction condition alongside the product. For numerical work, carry units through the calculation.

Biology

Genetics and Evolution carries 18 marks, the largest of the five Biology units. Reproduction, Biology in Human Welfare and Ecology each carry 14. Biotechnology contributes 10. Practise explanations of processes with correctly labelled diagrams, and keep similar terms distinct—for example, pollination and fertilisation describe different events.

Each science subject also has a separate 30-mark practical component. A theory revision plan does not replace the laboratory work, record or assessment required for that component.

UP Board Class 12 English Syllabus

Writing includes a 10-mark article of about 150 words and a 10-mark letter. Letter tasks cover letters to the editor, complaints and business situations such as an order, booking, cancellation or enquiry. Practise the requested format and purpose instead of reproducing one memorised letter for every prompt.

Grammar covers narration, synthesis, transformation, syntax, idioms and phrases, phrasal verbs, synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution and homophones. It also includes 5 marks for Hindi-to-English translation. Reading and Grammar together account for 40 marks, equal to Literature.

The prescribed literature books are Flamingo and Vistas. Literature includes short and long answers, a poetry extract and the central idea of a poem. Figures of speech include simile, metaphor, personification, oxymoron, apostrophe, hyperbole and onomatopoeia.

The four school-level remedial unit tests mentioned in the English syllabus are separate from the board result. Their marks are not included in the final result.

UP Board Class 12 Previous-Year Papers and Preparation

The UP Board Class 12 question papers from 2026 provide recent subject and set practice. Choose the same subject as your registration and keep the printed paper code with the solution you use. Different sets can change the order or wording of questions.

Use a 2025 paper for a second written attempt rather than rereading the answers to the first. The 2024 and 2023 papers add older questions; compare their topics with the current syllabus before treating them as a full 2027 rehearsal.

In Maths and Physics, review where the method went wrong: formula choice, signs, units or calculation. In Chemistry, separate a missing reaction condition from a wrong product. In English, check whether the answer addresses the passage or writing task actually given. This makes the next practice session specific to the marks lost.

Practical Exams and Admit Card

The February timetable is the written-examination schedule. Physics, Chemistry and Biology also carry practical marks. Confirm the practical date and arrangements with your school instead of treating the written-paper date as the date for both assessments.

When the admit card is issued, match your name, photograph, roll number, registered subjects and examination centre with the school record. A wrong subject or missing photograph needs attention before exam day. Keep the admit card instructions with your personal subject timetable.

Check the route to the named centre and the reporting instruction on the admit card. The session start is not a reason to arrive at the gate at that exact time. Bring the permitted writing materials and follow the centre rules printed in the examination instructions.

UP Board Class 12 Result and Marksheets

The 2027 result date has not been announced. For the previous cycle, UPMSP scheduled the Class 10 and 12 results for 23 April 2026 at 4 pm, with access through the board website and DigiLocker.

Read each subject entry, the theory/practical breakup where shown, and the printed result status. Keep the roll number and school details available. If a name, subject or marks entry appears incorrect, take the downloaded result and the corresponding school record to the school for the applicable correction process.

A result percentage and a passing condition answer different questions. A percentage describes marks obtained out of the applicable maximum; it does not override a separate theory or practical minimum. Use the final marksheet and pass status for college applications, and follow the relevant admission process rather than treating a board result as a college seat allotment.

Scrutiny and compartment applications follow separate notices. Their deadlines, fees and permitted cases must match the examination year; an earlier year’s window does not remain open for the next batch.
