Dr. Sabyasachi Parida, a Senior Surgical Oncologist, led a team of medical professionals to achieve a remarkable feat at the KIMS Cancer Center. They have marked a significant milestone in surgical oncology by successfully operating on a young man with a huge left-sided massive 2 kg diaphragmatic tumor.

The tumor on the diaphragm was hindering the individual's ability to consume solid food. The diaphragm is a crucial muscular partition separating the chest from the abdomen. The tumor on the diaphragm measured approximately 24x17 cm, weighed over 2 kg, and was surgically removed.

Traditionally, this kind of surgery required invasive procedures such as opening both the abdomen and chest which poses a risk to the patient. However, Dr. Parida's innovative approach avoided the need for a chest incision or a chest drain, significantly reducing postoperative pain and enhancing the patient's recovery process.

The surgical team consists of Dr. Monika Dabgotra, OT Technician; Mrs. Kalpana Ojha, Senior OT Sister; Mikina Pradhan, Consultant Anaesthetist; Mr. Bibhas Prasad Barik, Senior OT Support staff; along with Nursing Officers and other dedicated staff. They have demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the six-hour procedure.

They have utilized state-of-the-art equipment and modern modular operating theatres at the KIMS Cancer Center. The team performed exceptionally as they required blood transfusions and they ensured the safety and well-being of the patient. The surgery has also concluded without intraoperative complications.

After the successful removal of the 2 kg tumor, the team of doctors reconstructed the large diaphragmatic defect. The patient woke up comfortably on the operating table and recovered swiftly without the need for respiratory support or intensive care.
