- The faculties are top-notch with a commendable knowledge in their respective fields.
- The presence of branches like NSS, NCC, Red cross, introduces other learning dimensions to the students, be it moral ethics, hospitality, national service, which also enhances the chances if getting jobs.
Dislikes
- Lack of college transport results in low attendence of many students who uses walking as a commute to reach college. In adverse climatic conditions, students are unable to go to college because of this reason.
- The lack of general books, weekly magazines, novels, contemporary research papers, daily newspapers, books in the library leads to a bunch of students having no knowledge about the current affairs and events happening in the world making their knowledge stagnant.
Remarks :
The college is one of the top colleges in Meghalaya from which students often succeed in holding top ranks among many other colleges. I heard about the college my my friend who was already pursuing education from there and then I took the admission offline. Students can also take the admission online. Students must secure 40% aggregate in their 12th exam for a confirm seat. I was asked a few basic questions regarding my subject matter, why I want to pursue the subject so and so etc and then I was given admission. There was no written tests as such organized to give admissions.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I'm keenly interested in English literature from a very early age and I couldn't think of a better place than Shillong to pursue my bachelor's and at last, it's worth it. The faculties are top-notch with a commendable experience on the esteemed field. They are quite friendly and easily approachable. Their broad mentality and effective teaching(through assignments and presentations) methods have only fostered our overall learning experience. They hold highly recommended degrees such as PhD and MPhil. The semester exams are held after every 4-5 months and the internal and practical exams commence 30-40 days before the semester exams.
Internships Opportunities :
Companies such as IndiGo, Airindia, spicejet held interviews that draw a large number of students from college eager to go for tourism and hospitality services. The senior students from the Bachelor's of tourism and travel management are send to states such as Goa and Bangalore for their summer internships and explore job opportunities which only foster foster their practical skills and overall learning experience. Students who are trained under NCC get jobs under army service easily with their unwavering commitment and dedication towards national service. The certificates given to them by the college also plays a major role in getting jobs.
Placement Experience :
The student must be a passed out alumni of the esteemed college. Local institutions such as NEIGRIHMS, and local companies often pay visits to the college in search if meritorious students who can fulfill their needs. Students are taken to field trips to various institutions (agriculture, tech, medical) to foster their overall learning experience and navigate job opportunities. The average package is approximately 150000. Approx. 57% students get placements. I plan to pursue my master's after completing my graduation.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I paid the 1st semester fee less than what's written below as NEP 2020 wasn't implemented then. After the implementation, the fee structure is revised and below is the revised fee structure. BA - Exam fee- 900 1st semester - 13,000 2nd semester - 15,550 3rd Semester - 14,650 BSC- 1st semester - 19,200 (Exam fee- 1300) 2nd semester - 21,750 (Exam fee- 1100) 3rd Semester - 16,850 (Exam fee- 1500) BTTM- Exam fee- 900 1st semester - 30,100 2nd semester - 22,550 3rd semester - 28,750 BCA Exam fee- 1300 1st semester - 24,900 2nd semester - 21,150 3rd semester - 25,850 VTC (vocational and training courses)- 1,800 (excluding cost of materials that need to bought by the students taking subjects such as- Baking and confectionery, beauty and care, fashion designing) Everything, including the medical fee, library fee, admission fee, tuition fee, security money is including in the above listed fee structure.
Campus Life :
The college week is a five-day affair which is often held at the month of September. It's a vivid given to the students to portray their talents in various fields. Vivid themes are given for different days to make the event more fun and interesting. For e.g. - cosplay, rock and roll, disney, cowboy, mismatched, bollywood etc. The library has a wide range of books and journals from various domains. Each classroom is equipped with a smartboard and benches that can accomodate 100-200 students comfortably and speakers are constructed to ensure no one remains left out. The college has its own branch of NSS, NCC, Red cross etc which fosters practical skills and increase the capability to grapple job opportunities. National tourism day, World Aids Day, Drug awareness campaigns are held which stretches the length of learning for the students. Drama club, book club and reading club are there. The college has its own instagram page which is run by the teachers and designated students.
Hostel Facilities :
The college has two canteens(general canteen and khasi canteen), one coffee shop and one stationery shop to ease the challenges of the students. The general canteen serves all sorts if snacks and full course meals while the khasi canteen primarily serves khasi and local delicacies. The food items are pocket friendly with the students and are being observed by the college student council to regulate the rules and regulations made in accordance with the students. The admission procedure for the hostel is different from the college. It's partly autonomous from the college authority. The hostel mess is convenient that serves nutrient rich meals to tge students (meat, egg, fish, paneer etc). There's designated time for water and electricity (only to charge electronics) availability. Currently I'm saying in Bishnupur in a PG which is situated in a 30 minute walk distance from the college.

There is no placement cell in college,but i have planned for NORCET EXAM and NCLEX for job in foreign country and in the meantime i will join any private hospital which pay me good money and along with it i will prepare for NORCET

The employment rate of my course is demanding so I opt this. Also there is campus opportunity for some courses available in the college. After biotechnology you can choose any profession like professor researcher etc .

Job opportunities from our college is not quite good, but our college is renowned for their excellence in commerce so employability after completion of course is not a big issue especially for me, i personally would like to get involved in financial sectors

Since it's a college affiliated under NEHU, so there's only graduation course here. But if you want to do masters you have go to NEHU for that. Only then you will get a good placement. But I had friends in other departments they were given the opportunity to sit for placement interview but again the package isn't as high as someone would get after post graduation.

Placement opportunities were not directly available but many companies and institutions scouted our students through seminars and programmes for further job after the degree. The package differed from student to student and they were offered individually to them so it was hard to know the exact number.

Since I’m still under graduation , I don’t know much about the placements here. But my plans after my graduation is to persue MBA from a good university. But as I’ve heard from my seniors, the placements here are quite good and many of the students grab the placement opportunities that are offered here.
