Nift has their own criteria to select students. It conducts it's examination once in a year(mostly in Jan). The Exam is situated in stages for UG students- CAT(creative ability test) and GAT(general ability test) weightage for each of the exam in 30% and if the student clears the above stage then they go though SITUATION TEST- weightage 40%. GAT(2 hrs)/CAT(3 hrs) conducts on the same day of examination.(100 marks each). When the students reach/passes the cut off they appear in situation test. The GAT in includes english, gk, logical reasoning, mathematics. CAT include the creative part/ drawing Situation test includes- making a 3D model on spot. A student can prepare for the examination through themselves or take a coaching(BRDS, PAHEL, ETC) There is no PI round for UG students. Once the situation test is cleared the rank is generated and the centre can be chosen according to the rank. The website does crash when the results are out which can be improved.
I always had a keen interest in Fashion Design and that why I chose NIFT because it has atmosphere, facilities, exposure. The faculty over here are extremely knowledgeable, some of them are PHDs, they are kind, approachable. The faculty try to use every latest technology for the better understanding of students. We have MID TERMS(30 marks), END TEMS(30 marks) and JURY(40 marks). Jury is the difficult of all as we have to present our work to the jurors(internal and external) according to the work we get the critics. Jury happens at the end of sem(Dec. and May)
Since I am a second year, companies does not really hure but some students do find the internship themselves to improve their profile. But most of the early fashion internships are without stipend. It is easy to approach small business of a student want experience. I did not do any intership yet so do not go with the review given in stars, I had to do it because is it compulsory
For the placement students need to complete their 4 years. Internship is compulsory in 3rd year for 2 months. For graduation project(8th sem) students have option to either work on their collection or work under a company. We have connections in myntra, the raw mango Since the placements are not satisfactory for the students, they start looking for themselves. But nift won't leave a single student without getting placed.
