BRAOU Courses and Fees

BRAOU runs 70+ programmes at UG, PG, M.Phil, Ph.D, PG diploma, diploma, and certificate levels. All courses are taught through ODL or online mode. The university fixes the fee structure, and its recognised degree programmes are among the lower-cost options in India.

The listed amounts are full programme fees for general category students. SC/ST students and EWS candidates may get fee concessions as per government notification. Online courses such as MBA, MCom, and BCom can follow a separate fee schedule.

BRAOU Admission Process

BRAOU handles admissions online. Students register on the BRAOU portal, select a programme, upload the required documents, and pay the INR 300 application fee. For most UG, PG, diploma, and certificate courses, admission is based on merit and no entrance test is held.

UG Programmes (BA, BCom, BSc, BLiSc)

For BA, BCom, and BSc, students need 10+2 or an equivalent qualification from a recognised board. These courses do not need an entrance test. Seats are given on a first-come, first-served basis, and documents are checked after registration. The university allots the nearest study centre using the address submitted by the student.

PG Programmes (MA, MCom, MSc, MSW, MLiSc)

PG applicants must have a graduation degree in a relevant subject. The required marks range from 40 to 50%, depending on the course. MA and MCom do not have an entrance test. For MSc courses, students may need qualifying marks in science subjects at graduation level. Admission is completed after document checking at the allotted study centre.

MBA

For MBA admission, applicants need graduation in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate. BRAOU conducts an entrance test for MBA. Students shortlisted through the test are called for document verification before final admission. MBA (HHCM) also needs either a healthcare-related graduation background or work experience.

B.Ed and B.Ed Special Education

B.Ed applicants must have graduation in a teaching subject with at least 50% marks as per NCTE rules. BRAOU offers B.Ed in ODL mode and conducts a state-level entrance test for seats. Counselling is centralised, and seats are allotted by entrance test rank and reservation rules. B.Ed Special Education (Learning Disability) needs graduation with 45% and follows a separate counselling process required by RCI.

Ph.D and M.Phil

Ph.D applicants need a PG degree with at least 55% in the relevant subject. BRAOU holds the Research Entrance Test (RET) twice a year. Shortlisted students attend an interview before a supervisor is assigned. M.Phil admission needs PG with 55% and is based on merit in the qualifying examination.

BRAOU Career Outcomes

BRAOU does not hold campus placements because many of its learners are already working professionals, government employees improving their qualifications, homemakers, or rural students studying through distance mode. Its degrees are valid in India for jobs and higher education, and they are treated as equivalent to degrees from regular universities under UGC norms.

For many students, a BRAOU course helps with promotion eligibility, qualification improvement, or professional certification. B.Ed graduates can appear for TET and apply for teacher recruitment. MBA graduates can use the degree for management-level promotions and government job applications that ask for a postgraduate qualification. Ph.D graduates can apply for assistant professor posts as per UGC eligibility rules.

BRAOU Rankings

BRAOU is placed among the top three open universities in India under the National Institutional Ranking Framework. In the NIRF 2024 Open University category, it secured the 3rd rank in India.

The university also has NAAC Grade A accreditation with a CGPA of 3.12, valid till April 2029. It is one of the state-level ODL universities in India with both an NIRF rank and NAAC accreditation.

BRAOU Scholarships

BRAOU learners can apply for government scholarship schemes that are open to distance education students. The university also offers limited internal fee concessions for students from economically weaker backgrounds.

Scholarship forms are handled through the National Scholarship Portal after admission is confirmed. Students should complete the NSP application before the deadline, which usually falls between October and December.

BRAOU vs IGNOU vs Tamil Nadu Open University

BRAOU, IGNOU, and Tamil Nadu Open University are public open universities with UGC-recognised distance and online degrees. Students usually compare them by course options, fees, study centre access, language medium, and NIRF position.

IGNOU has the widest reach, with more than 3,000 study centres and a pan-India presence, so it suits many learners outside Telangana. BRAOU is stronger for students in Telangana because it offers Telugu-medium support and a close study-centre network in the state. TNOU is a similar regional choice for Tamil-medium learners in south India.
