Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur was established in 1967 as the PG center of Sri Venkateswara University. It gained autonomy in 1976. Initially, it was a unitary university. It was granted the status of an affiliated university in 1988. The PG center in Kurnool was brought under the jurisdiction of the university in 1993 and became a separate university in 2008. Currently, SKU offers 126 courses in 10 streams and 22 specialties. The university was ranked #575 of 876 in India by Edurank.

Starting with just five departments and one hundred students, the university now has five colleges:

  • SKU College of Engineering and Technology
  • SKU College of Pharmacy
