JPU Chapra Courses and Fees

The university's course range comprises 23 undergraduate programmes, 17 postgraduate programmes, 17 PhD programmes and 8 certificate courses. These cover arts, science, commerce, law, education and mass communication. As a government-aided affiliating university, JPU has programme fees among the most affordable in the Saran Division.

Students choosing BA can study English, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, Economics, History, Geography, Political Science, Psychology or Philosophy. The five M.Sc subjects are Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Zoology.

Certificate courses cost INR 6,500 per semester. The eight choices are IT, Tally, Yoga, Human Rights, Food Technology, Women's Studies, Vedic Karmakand and Food Processing Technology.

JPU Chapra Admission Process

Marks in the qualifying examination determine selection for most JPU programmes. UG and PG applicants do not need to take a central university entrance test, although B.Ed and PhD follow separate selection routes. For the 2026-27 admission cycle, the route depends on the course.

Applying for BA, B.Sc and B.Com

The Bihar School Examination Board operates OFSS, the Online Facilitation System for Students, through which these undergraduate admissions are processed.

• Create an OFSS Bihar registration using an active mobile number and email address.
• Fill in Class 12 marks, stream and subject details.
• Choose JPU Chapra and arrange the preferred colleges in the required order.
• Check the merit list, which uses the overall Class 12 marks for selection.
• After allotment, take the original documents to the assigned college and pay the admission fee to secure the seat.

B.Sc applicants must have studied the relevant science subjects in Class 12. A Biology background is necessary for Honours courses in Biotechnology and Industrial Microbiology. B.Sc Environmental Science also admits students through this route.

Entering the B.Ed Programme

A bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks is needed for B.Ed; the requirement is 45% for SC/ST applicants. Students must take the Bihar B.Ed CET, after which their scores are used for seat allotment through centralised counselling rounds. JPU's 15 affiliated B.Ed colleges run this 2-year course, including the 2026-28 batch.

Applying for MA, M.Sc and M.Com

For postgraduate study, students submit an online form through jpvadm.samarth.edu.in. Selection depends entirely on qualifying degree marks, with merit lists issued in several rounds. The 2026-28 intake had reached the third merit list by October 2026. Across Chapra, Siwan and Gopalganj, each PG subject has a set number of seats at the relevant constituent colleges. Joining LLB, BBA and BMC

Graduates from any discipline may apply for the 3-year LLB, where graduation marks form the basis of merit. BBA and BMC also use merit for selection, with applications handled through the Samarth portal and direct university notifications. Students should follow jpv.ac.in for each programme's application schedule and deadline.

PhD Selection

Admission notices specify the process for JPU's 17 research disciplines. The accepted selection routes are UGC NET, CSIR NET and the JPU Research Entrance Test.

JPU Chapra Campus and Infrastructure

Eastern Chapra in Saran district is home to JPU's 242-acre main campus. It brings together the central administrative offices, postgraduate teaching departments and central library. The library holds academic material across several disciplines. Students also have access to a sports complex, an indoor games hall, banking services, an ATM, and a training and placement centre.

Accommodation on the main campus includes two women's hostels that together house more than 200 residents. Several constituent colleges outside the main campus provide hostels for male students. Through its 21 constituent colleges and 24 affiliated colleges, the university makes degree study available across its three-district area of Chapra, Siwan and Gopalganj in the Saran Division.

JPU Chapra Scholarships

Government scholarship support is available to eligible students of JPU and its constituent and affiliated colleges. Depending on the scheme, students apply through Bihar's state scholarship portal or the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Students should submit Bihar government scholarship applications during their first semester so that scheme deadlines are not missed. Schemes offered through NSP are managed centrally, and payments go directly into the student's bank account.
