RCUB is a relatively new university, but it is the state's largest, encompassing the jurisdictions of Belagavi, Vijayapura, and Bagalkot districts. It has a particular academic character, integrating a devotion to rural ethos with a modern attitude, and catering mostly to North Karnataka students. There are currently 389 affiliated colleges, 4 independent colleges, and around 1.35 lakh students enrolled. RCUB now has 21 Post-Graduate Departments operating within the boundaries of 9 Schools, with over 2100 students enrolled. Yoga is also offered at the university in the form of six diploma programs and a certificate program. Around 360 research researchers are pursuing their Ph.D.’s, and over 90 Ph. D. degrees have been conferred across the Schools.

The Government of Karnataka established Rani Channamma University, Belagavi (RCUB) in 2010 by amending the Karnataka State Universities Act 2000. Rani Channamma of Kittur, India's first lady freedom warrior was honored with this name.

By maintaining contact with reputable organizations and industrial establishments, the Placement Cell of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi is committed to playing a critical role in training various need-based skills and discovering acceptable career prospects for passing out students. It is open all year to make connections between companies and graduating students.
