Research-focused M.Sc choices include Nanoscience and Technology in Physics and Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Wood Science and Technology, and Medical Microbiology. These programmes are taught at the university's research campuses. Their fees exceed those of conventional M.Sc courses because they require laboratory-intensive facilities.
The selection procedure depends on the course. Most undergraduate seats are allotted from Class 12 marks through CAP, while law, management, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes use the relevant entrance examination or merit route.
Kannur University and the LBS Centre for Science and Technology jointly manage the Centralised Allotment Process for undergraduate admission to university departments and affiliated colleges. Most BA, B.Sc, B.Com, and BBA courses do not require a separate university entrance test because selection is based on Class 12 (+2) marks.
A valid KLEE score is needed for admission to affiliated law colleges. CEE Kerala conducts this examination. The five-year integrated BALLB accepts students after Class 12, while entry to the three-year LLB requires a bachelor's degree.
The School of Management and Business Studies at Mangattuparamba, Kannur, accepts KMAT Kerala, CAT, or MAT scores for its MBA programme. Applicants need a bachelor's degree with at least 50% aggregate.
Postgraduate selection takes place through the university's Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) or a marks-based merit process. Applicants must have a relevant bachelor's degree. An M.Sc applicant generally needs a B.Sc in the matching field with 50% aggregate, while an MA applicant must hold a BA degree.
Admission to a PhD programme is based on the University Research Entrance Test. Applicants require a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject with 55% aggregate. Registration notices appear on the university website each year. Research programmes are active in science, humanities, law, management, and education.
Kannur University functions mainly as an affiliating state university and does not run one central placement system. Individual departments and affiliated colleges arrange their own career support. The School of Management and Business Studies handles MBA recruitment, while professional colleges maintain separate placement cells.
| Placement Area | Available Information |
|---|---|
| MBA placements at the university department | Most offers fall within INR 3 to 6 LPA. |
| University-wide placements | Kannur University has not publicly disclosed centralised placement statistics. |
Career routes commonly followed by graduates include:
Kannur University has remained within the 51 to 100 band of the NIRF State Public University category. Since its establishment in 1996, the university has continued developing its research facilities and publication work.
| Ranking Body | Category | 2025 Rank | 2024 Rank |

The university's academic standing is also reflected by its NAAC B++ accreditation, which is the second-highest category on the NAAC grading scale and is considered strong for a state affiliating university in its third decade. Kannur University takes part in NIRF every year and has steadily improved its research output, graduation outcomes, and outreach measures.
Eligible students at the university and its affiliated colleges can apply for central and Kerala government financial-aid schemes. These include Post Matric Scholarships for SC, ST, and OBC students, fresh and renewal assistance from the Kerala State Welfare Corporation for SC/ST students, and the Central Sector Scholarship for high-performing students from low-income households.
| Scholarship | Eligibility | Coverage |

Applications are submitted through the National Scholarship Portal or the Kerala Government's e-grantz portal. For most campus programmes, Kannur University does not separately provide institutional merit scholarships.
Kannur University has seven campuses along the Malabar coast in Kannur, Kasaragod, and Wayanad. Hermann Gundert Campus at Mangattuparamba, near Kannur city, is the main campus. It houses the university administration and the Schools of Management, Law, and Sciences.
Dr. Janaki Ammal Campus in Thalassery accommodates the School of Life Sciences. Its research centres work in Biotechnology and Microbiology, and it also houses the Inter-University Centre for Bioscience. Swami Anandatheertha Campus is situated in Kasaragod. Research infrastructure includes molecular biology laboratories, a crystallography unit supporting macromolecular research, and specialised equipment used by nanotechnology and computational biology programmes.
Each campus has a central library with printed collections and electronic resources. Most university campuses do not have commercial hostels. Government hostel facilities are available through the relevant welfare departments for SC/ST students and students from economically weaker sections.
Students seeking UG or PG admission in Kerala may compare Kannur University with the University of Calicut and Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam. Each is a UGC-recognised state public university, but their locations, college networks, accreditation, and research areas differ.

Economics was my favourite subject . It was my dream to get graduated in economics from government college Mananthavady. Course duration was 3 years including six semesters. There was project and viva session in the last semester. Highly qualified teachers with doctorate degrees in their subject is one of the specialities of government college Mananthavady. Viva session and project work are the most difficult one.
The overall experience of the college was really nice. 3 years of campus experience is memorable too. I got admitted through the process of allotment here. The college is one of the best collages in wayanad district which works under kannur university. Government college Mananthavady is awarded with NAAC A grade also.

It was so good. The qualification of the faculty was, they did b. Ed and then wriote the exam net, set in that they got selected to the list of lectures. While doing that they did their phd in economics. These are qualification of the faculty. There were not any term exams. They conduct exams after completing one module.
