East Calcutta Girls College, Kolkata was established in 1992. It was formerly known as Lake Town Girls College. ECGC Kolkata is affiliated to West Bengal State University and is accredited grade B by NAAC. The college offers various UG courses such as B.Sc, BA, and B.Com. and MA, M.Sc. at the PG level. The college has a placement cell that provides internship and job opportunities for students. Companies visit for recruitment every year but the package offered is not very high. ECGC Kolkata Scholarships

The college provides various scholarship opportunities for students to help in further studies of girls from weaker sections of society. Based on the academic excellence and the minority schemes various scholarships can be availed. Some of them are-

  • Indira Gandhi Scholarship- This scholarship is to promote girls' higher education and empower them. This is a Government scholarship provided to a candidate who must be a Single Girl Child of parents and must be enrolled in a full-time pg course. The age should be below 30 years. The amount of the scholarship is Rs. 36,000 per annum
  • Udaan Scholarship (collaborated with the ICA Foundations)
  • Kanyashree Scholarship (K2 and K3 level)- This was launched by the West Bengal government to support economically weaker girls to study and grow. For K2 level- Rs. 25,000. The minimum Eligibility for K2 level-
  1. The candidate must be a permanent resident of West Bengal
  2. The family income must be below Rs. 1,20,000 per annum.
  3. The applicant must be unmarried.
  4. Must be enrolled in a full-time course. course.

For K3 level-

  1. There is no age limit.
  2. The student must have passed ug with 45% marks.
  3. Must be enrolled in a pg course.
  4. For K3 level- For arts- Rs. 2,000 per month and For science-Rs. 2,500 per month
  • Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship - The West Bengal government launched this scholarship to support the gracious and academically excellent students from weaker sections of society. To be eligible for availing, family income must be less than Rs. 2,50,000. He/ she must have passed 12 with 60% marks. However, If applying for pg, the student must have passed with 53% marks in graduation. The amount sanctioned is between Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 60,000 per annum.
