NIRRH Mumbai: Quick Facts

NIRRH Mumbai Started its journey as a family planning unit in 1954 at the ICRC (Later named as Cancer Research Unit).
In 1956, the unit was reorganized as the Contraceptive Testing Unit (CTU), and after five years, it was renamed as Reproductive Physiology Unit (RPU).
It was shifted to Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital, in 1963 and came under the Directorate of Family Planning, Government of India, and then to the Indian Council of Medical Research.
On 20th July 2002, it got the name: - ‘National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health’.
NIRRH Mumbai is a WHO Collaborating Center for Research and Training in Reproductive Health.
Collaborations are undertaken to promote research and the dissemination of information on reproductive health matters.
The Library and Information Center at NIRRH Mumbai has an exclusive collection of journals, databases, books, and reports, etc. on reproductive health care.
The University offers Research Programs in Fertility Regulation, Infertility and Reproductive Disorders, HIV / STIs / RTIs, Maternal and Child Health, Immunology and Microbiology, Reproductive cancers, Osteoporosis, and Genetic Disorders, Structural Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Reproductive Toxicology, and Bioinformatics.

The institute offers Fellowship to JRF qualified candidates. The selected candidates, who have passed the JRF examination can avail themselves of the fellowship from the funding agency. Non-fellowship holders will get an Institutional fellowship of INR 8000/- per month for 2 Years that will be credited after successful completion of the course.
