GSMC Mumbai Courses and Fees

GSMC's teaching ranges from undergraduate medical and allied health degrees to clinical postgraduate courses, advanced specialist training and doctoral research. Course lengths, entry requirements and total fees are listed below. PCB means Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Advanced DM and M.Ch training covers Cardiology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Neonatology, Endocrinology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery. Maharashtra government rules provide category-based fee reductions for OBC, SC and ST students in allied health courses.

GSMC Mumbai Admission Process

The course determines which entrance score or merit list applicants must use. Medical seats are allotted through centralised counselling, where students submit their preferred courses and colleges. All India and Maharashtra State Quota applicants follow their respective counselling authorities.

1. Check the qualification, marks, age and internship requirements for the chosen programme.
2. Take the required entrance examination, or apply through the relevant merit-based route.
3. For medical courses, register with the counselling authority responsible for the applicable quota.

MBBS Entry Requirements and Seat Allotment

NEET UG scores decide admission to all 250 MBBS seats. The intake is split into 15% All India Quota and 85% Maharashtra State Quota. Neither a management quota nor an NRI quota is available.

• Applicants must pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. The minimum aggregate is 50% for General Category and 45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD applicants.
• Students must be 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year.
• MCC allots the 38 AIQ seats through 3 rounds followed by a stray vacancy round.
• For the 212 State Quota seats, Maharashtra CET Cell and DMER conduct multiple allotment rounds.

Competition for GSMC's MBBS seats is high among applicants to Maharashtra government medical colleges.

MD, MS and PG Diploma Selection

NEET PG is the basis for admission to MD, MS and PG Diploma courses. MCC PG counselling fills 50% of the seats under AIQ; DMER Maharashtra handles the other 50%.

• Applicants need an MBBS degree, a completed compulsory rotating internship and registration with NMC or Maharashtra Medical Council.
• At the national level, selection depends solely on the NEET PG score.

KEM's large patient load contributes to strong competition for General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics and Anaesthesiology. Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry generally have less competitive admission cutoffs.

Admission to DM and M.Ch

Applicants seeking advanced specialist training must hold an MD or MS in the relevant field and take NEET SS. Centralised MCC SS counselling handles allotment alongside DMER Maharashtra for State Quota seats. Available fields include Cardiology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Allied Health Admission

For BPT and BOT, students need a 45% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at 10+2 level. Government-college selection follows MUHS CET. B.Sc Paramedical Sciences uses HSC marks to prepare a merit list under MUHS rules. Eligible OBC, SC and ST students can receive fee concessions under Maharashtra government policy.

MBBS and Postgraduate Cutoff Ranges

Closing ranks change with the counselling round, academic year and available seats. Recent MBBS cycles have shown the following General Category ranges; NEET UG paper difficulty can also affect the outcome. The postgraduate range applies to competitive departments rather than every MD/MS course.

GSMC Mumbai Placements and Career Paths

Graduates build their careers through postgraduate admission, medical service and practice rather than a conventional campus placement drive. KEM Hospital employs 390 physicians and 550 resident doctors, giving students experience across a wide range of clinical work. This training is widely seen as useful preparation for competitive postgraduate entrance examinations.

Most GSMC graduates take NEET PG to seek MD or MS seats. Maharashtra government service through MPSC recruitment and private practice are other routes. During the compulsory MBBS internship, students receive a monthly stipend set under Maharashtra government rules.

GSMC Mumbai Campus and Facilities

The college, KEM Hospital complex, research laboratories and student hostels share an urban campus on Acharya Donde Marg in Parel, central Mumbai. Parel railway station is within walking distance.

KEM's 45 clinical and pre-clinical departments operate across 2,250 beds, with daily outpatient attendance exceeding 6,500. Patients come from Parel, Lalbaug and the wider central Mumbai area. BMC provides most of the hospital's funding, allowing it to offer heavily subsidised treatment to economically disadvantaged city residents. For MBBS students, the large patient load supports some of India's most intensive practical clinical training.

Separate men's and women's hostels provide on-campus accommodation for 1,145 students. The hospital authority allocates rooms, and demand is high. Students from outside Mumbai, especially those entering clinical-year batches, should apply early because staying near the wards helps during postings. A substantial medical reference collection and access to digital medical databases are available through the college library.

GSMC Mumbai, Grant Medical College and TNMC Mumbai Comparison

Mumbai's three main government medical colleges are GSMC, Grant Medical College (GMC) and Topiwala National Medical College (TNMC). Each holds NMC recognition and affiliation to MUHS Nashik. Their MBBS and postgraduate admissions use NEET UG and NEET PG through the same counselling system.

Among these colleges, GSMC has both the largest MBBS intake and the highest hospital capacity. KEM's 2,250 beds support the widest clinical exposure of the three. Grant Medical College, Maharashtra's oldest medical college, has a long-standing reputation for surgical training at the JJ hospital complex. TNMC is known for postgraduate teaching in internal medicine and obstetrics. All three attract the same Maharashtra applicant pool and provide equivalent NEET-based admission routes.
